Which ones out there match the vents? I haven't received my laptop yet but I'm thinking about buying a stand.

stay away from cooler master. antec, zalman and cryo are good. zalman seems to be the most popular if you got the bucks.

Uhhh why, pukemon? I'm going to buy the Cooler Master SF-19, it's gotten good reviews all throughout.

i've read reviews of more than one product from cooler master. the quality seems to be very spread out. i took a chance on the u2 and i hear the fans growl occasionally. not a good sign for longevity. some of the U series were clunkers out of the box or within days. my antec notebook cooler s has been a beast for over 3 years. i also used an antec notebook cooler s upside down on my surround sound receiver for about a year and a half. that cooler ran 24/7 for over a year and it's in a drawer right now but i'm sure it will run fine when this one finally bites the dust. i only chomped at the u2 because i got it on sale, and at the very least i got an aluminum stand that i can tinker with when the fans do go out.

Well I've heard no complaints about the SF-19 from anyone...I mean people are bound to get a few lemons from every brand, right?

of course. but it was more than a few lemons. even zalman has had a few lemons, but i've heard more positive than negative from that brand. i don't know how much the sf-19 costs. a lot of times you do get what you pay for. my original antec cost me 12 bucks, still runs AAAAND cools better than a cooler with two customizable fans. i bought the rest @ frys on closeout for 8 bucks. i paid a hair more for 2 antec notebook cooler s's and the cooler master u2 blows. in a bad way.

Alright, I'll look into those. Completely unrelated question, how many expansion slots are there for the ram? I took a quick glance inside and only saw 2 slots both of which had 2gb sticks in them. In order to upgrade, do I just need to get 2 4gb sticks?

I bought a stand for $5. Works great! I wouldn't spend any more money on a stand. There isn't much use. As long as you keep your notebook elevated so the rear intakes have room to breathe, you are good. The real benefit of a stand is stuff like adjustable height for making typing more comfortable and extras like rotation (this one has a rotating base).

that might be ok for a desk but it doesn't look very portable. and btw, most intakes are on the bottom of laptops. that's what all the slots are there for. it's a reason why it's not recommened to use your laptop on your lap or bed unless it is elevated properly.

Folds flat and has 9 positions. It worked for me and kept the laptop cool. I meant bottom intakes when I said rear intakes. I use this for holding my laptop on my chest when I'm in bed too :D

It mainly compresses my rib cage and lungs and makes it harder to breathe. Easier if I take the battery out of the laptop to make it lighter.

It keeps the laptop from being suffocated by my body and raises the keyboard incline so I can type while my head is comfortably on the pillow.

Man, I'm so lazy. One day, I'm going to end up hanging my laptop from the ceiling so I can just look straight up at it.

I'm leaning towards a zalman however I can't tell which ones are made for 17.3" laptops.

It looks like this one is the way to go, and the reviews suggest it could be used for up to 18" notebooks: ZALMAN Notebook Cooler Model ZM-NC2000
