I was looking at a D900F since it had the Core i7 in it. It looked alot like my D900C. I was wondering if it was possible to switch the mobos on the systems while keeping the same case. And this might be a stretch, but to add an extra GTX 280M. That would be a beast system.

If the chassis are EXACTLY the same, then you could swap the motherboard. In theory. I'm not saying go try it O.O. As for the video card, you cannot add a second 280m to the D900F's motherboard, as it simply does not have enough slots to handle it. The ultimate machine would indeed be a 280m SLI + an i7 975 and 12GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM, but... like that's actually gonna happen... They'd need a new battery altogether to keep it working for more than 30 minutes off power. Also the wattage in the system wouldn't be all that amazing lol.

Core i7 is a different processor socket than Core 2 series. You will need a motherboard swap.

You can add a GTX 280m to your system. You can use it as your primary graphics card, and then use your 9800M GTX as a PhysX/CUDA processor. That would work well. Just make sure you stick the GTX 280m in the primary GPU slot (GPU0).

Are you sure you could add a GTX 280M in a D900C? I read somewhere that they have different MXM slots, but Im not sure.

You can't use the MXM 3.0b version found in the D900F, but there are MXM 2.1 III versions of the GTX 280M available.

It was a motherboard swap he asked about, then about adding a second 280m to the D900F's board giving it SLI

Using MXM 3.0b gives the 280m extra voltage added to it and increases the memory clock from 800 to 950 base. The MXM 2.1 III version of the 280m can achieve the same clocks as the 3.0b version but you'll need to overvolt it before it can handle the higher memory clocks properly
