While Sager/Clevo has good performance laptops, they lack good looking ones. :D Have any of you guys considered customizations, skins or paint jobs for your laptops?

Lots of resellers have this option. They'll give you custom skins and finishes. Some like DigitalStorm and Falcon Northwest (not really resellers, but companies that make their own branding on clevo's) offer personalized paint jobs and such. Granted the cost is much higher.

I've got a a skinit skin on my current laptop. I'm sure I'll just do the same thing for my new one, they're really high quality, although a bit pricey for what's essentially a big vinyl sticker. I'd like to get something like the faux bamboo or wood paneling that some of the places offer..

I like that it makes my laptop a little unique. But in the case of Sagers, I specifically wanted a plain and unassuming laptop. That way I can park it next to one of those flashy alienwares at one of our college lan parties and run circles around them :D.

Haha! the effect is exacerbated if you opt for a dumb looking skin!

I actually think they look great. Theres nothing wrong wit making them look flashier, but I think they look very professional. Making it pretty much the only gaming laptop with out all the flashy lights

AVAdirect offers paintjobs, good looking ones too. XoticPC offers skin jobs to both lid area and keyboard area with your choice of skin.

I agree, even the Toshiba's have that bright orange and don't look very professional. That's what I like most about Clevo machines, they are basic looking yet professional and elegant with all the power of and even moreso than some of the "gaming" laptops like Alienware. Not to mention competitively priced with comparable components.

The only thing I wish they did was offer a stainless steel top panel (on the back of LCD) I have that now on XPS, but it's black. If I could get it in silver, I'd love to be able to get it laser etched.... That's the ONLY thing I like about the macbook pros I've seen.

What about the backlit keyboards this generation of Clevo's is supposed to get?

One of the caveats of getting a painted or skinned laptop is you only get a 15 day return period and a restocking fee of 15% of the value of the laptop. (at XoticPC) That can be pretty steep on a high end machine. Also if you decide to sell it may enhance or hinder the chance for sale.

Personally I like the plain and simple look, no one suspects the laptop of being a gaming rig with lots of power, and it looks professional enough to not get funny looks at the office.

if they announce backlit keys/6970 at CeBIT, and I come up dead, it's because my rep killed me for changing my order for the billionth time..

Jk. Myth has been fantastic! Props for 'almost' keeping up with all my emails lol. He's doing a way better job then I expected :)

But seriously. Even if it means April (maybe May) i'd change my order for backlit keys. If it's just the 6970, I'll probably stick with the 485 (unless its available by the end of march)

I've got a couple of skins from here. You can edit your own design on their website.
