So I was trying to configure an NP5791 from Xotic PC for less than $2200 (Which was easy), couple hours later, I update my page and the 7950GTX is missing!

I am now informed that the 7950 has been discontinued (with Xotic PC) and I refuse to purchase a 8700 M given the 7950's dominance over it. (plus, everyone is playing Crysis in DX.9... :) )

Will I be able to get an NP5791 for less than $2200 with either 8800 card, 2.2Ghz, and 2GB's Ram + Vista?

    or,

If the NP5791's are "actually" upgradeable, purchase one from a lesser known company (one thats trying to get rid of their 7950's in stock), and upgrade when I feel like it!

my thoughts are that you should just buy the 8700M GT, wait for the 8800M GTX/GTS to become available and then upgrade.

btw, does anybody know how the upgrade is going to work? are we going to have to send in our notebooks or are the graphics cards user upgradeable?

I agree if you want something now get the 8700M it is good, not as good as the 7950 but not really bad either. The last driver did a lot of good things for it as well. From what I am seeing and hearing it will probably be close to Jan before the 8800's are really available. But also there will not be much information on how the upgrade is going to work either. But it appears there will be an upgrade path.
