So I received my spiffy new M860TU from Eurocom, and all was good. I downloaded the custom Force drivers for my 9800M GT (not the GTS...suckers), waited forever and a day for Vista to update and then played Crysis. I had selected NOT to upgrade to a spiffy hard-drive from Eurocom because they wanted me to part with my right arm in order to purchase said hard-drive whereas Memory Express already owed me $60 from failing to repair my previous laptop and thus ordered my new 7200.3 320GB Seagate and patiently waited till Friday (today) for it to arrive...
Fast forward to Monday (four days ago) and I noticed that my hard-drive that Eurocom had supplied me was making an awful lot of noise but I figure, hey, you know what I'm going to replace it on Friday so no biggy but maybe I should open the case up just to make sure its the hard-drive. Its at this point I attempt to open my casing only to find one of the screws is...well...impossible to get out. So I'm one screw away from being able to take off my casing but because of where this screw is I can't even maneuvere it out![]()
Eurocom were more then happy to help and I'm shipping it back to them so they can look at it but its just ridiculous that in my right hand I hold my brand spanking new laptop that's sexeriffic and in my left I hold my new hard-drive...but I cannot combine themSo long as I get it back before Fallout 3 comes out though I'll be a happy camper

That's very unfortunate. Did you check out the service manual for the M860TU? And if you did, could you point out which screw it was?
Manual here, in case you haven't seen it. -

Just try to be patient until then.
Idk ask them if you can get a better one now lol. -

I can't get a phillipshead or flathead to get a grip on it. I tried everything to get it to hold on but there's nothing there. It won't turn.

***, just one little screw away from being a perfect computer.

Eurocom's service has been good. Their sales rep responded to me really quickly...prior to me paying them. After...ehh his service could be improved but conversely all the dealings I had with the shipping and tech support department after payment have been immediate responses.
One thing I will say is that the prices they charge are hugely overpriced, get them to price-match. The reason I went with them as opposed to XoticPC was because I wanted the 9800M GT which Xotic had run out of stock on (since they've been discontinued and I assume XoticPC runs through their stock a lot faster). If you want any other info let me know. -
Oh and if you want Arctic Silver thermal paste you have to request it, which comes standard with some other companies. Also, for better or for worse depending on your outlook, they have much more customisation options. Whereas most of these options come standard on say Dark Smiley, Xotic or Kobalt.

I have three screws that don't come completely out of the casing, but the casing still comes off with the screws in it. Does the screw turn at all? Mine will turn but not come out, but I guess they unscrew far enough to release from the unit.
-
Mine don't unscrew at all.
Edit: Does anyone have any experience removing stripped screws? -
wow ... sorry to hear about that mate. Usually you can tap in a new flat head grove with a small sharp chisel but not on a notebook! Did you try tightening the screw to see if it turns? That might loosen it too.
-
yeah I tried that originally, no dice.
Trying the superglue overnight solution tonight. Will report back tomorrow and if that doesn't work I'll try silver solder. -

so im not the only one that has had trouble getting screws out of it, on my 9262 with with as much preaure as i could give the screws wouldnt even bugde - even the ones that i had taken out before and put back in -
If this doesnt work just use a hammer -
Hahah hammer + laptop = doom.
I eventually went to Memory Express and they drilled out the ill-reputed screw and happily put a new one in for me for free. -
when dealing with laptop screws...i suggest getting a multi tip precision screw & hex driver set like these here.

they have worked 100 percent of the time for me. i have like 3 sets *LOL* -
Do the drive sizes mean the same thing?
Drive Size/s : 1/16, 5/64, 3/32, 1/8, #000, #00, #0, #1
Drive Size/s : T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, T10, T15
OP: Good to see your M860TU is back in tip-top condition. -

Thanks! -

Hahah no although on my old Asus Z96jm I was tempted many a time...

Its spiffy, needed a little work to begin with but they say that nothing that's good comes easy...my two main complaints which required work arounds, (the turning on bluetooth EVERY time you turn on the laptop to make the annoying high pitched noise turn off) and the hard drive temps (lowered by a program posted here on the forums elsewhere) are only midly annoying.
I've played a few games on it so far and tried Crysis (playing it for the first time) and was more disappointed with the game rather then my new lappie but the graphics were crisp. That game just seems repetitive and not particularly fun. Plus the AI is retardedly stupid. -
PS: Thanks. -
-
Same as with me I don't find it glossy, as a number of people have said before though, the casing around the laptop is a fingerprint magnet but I just put a clear covering on top so problem solved

Offtopic: I was in Montreal a couple of weeks back, beautiful place.
Could life with an M860TU be more ridiculous
