Dirxess from the Compal forum asked this about the IFL-90, which also applies to the Sager NP2090. Some of us are curious as to what the answer is to select the best notebook cooler for us.
Feel free to answer in this thread too, especially those of you guys with the Sagers already.

well i know that their are air vents at the bottom that blow out air. There are also vents on the back that blow out air. I'm not exactly sure which are the primary fans tho. I think the ones on the back are on all the time while the ones at the bottom only kick in when things get hot.
-
Interesting...so where are the intake vents on the Sager? On the sides?
-
Ok. the rear fan part blows out hot air the bottom fan feels cool. i'm guessing the bottom is intake and the back is output. therefore that cooler would work wonders. the thermal panel, according to the manual is located on the bottom.

Alright, I'll take a stab at this.
By looking at the picture the main vent is on the back, while there are some vents underneath. Most of the air will most likely be extracted from the back vent. The bottom vents work to prevent the HDD and other from overheating. So, if cool air is being pushed upwards, it keeps those components cool.
Personally I never used the zalman on soft surfaces because it's uncomfortable for my back to do such. But, I am sure you can as long you don't block the air source on the zalman.
The Zalman has an aluminum surface which dissipates heat fast, and with the fans on it won't heat, unless you have a blowtorch. -
This sounds good, the Zalman will probably work very well in combination with the IFL90/Sager 2090.
All my questions are answered now:
1. Are the hot air exhausts of the IFL90 located at the bottom side of the laptop?
No, these bottom side vents suck cool air in. After that the air flows through the laptop to cool it's hot parts and after that the hot air flows through the vent at the back of the laptop (which is quite a big vent, so it should be possible).
2. Does the Zalman hotten the laptop because of this?
No, it does not. Because the Zalman blows air to the bottom of the laptop, all the air flows in the same direction. This means there are no fans working against each other, it's teamwork! And as addition to that: the air of the Zalman directly flows along the hot underside of the laptop (that's where the thermal panel is located), so the laptop is cooled even better.
3. Can the Zalman be used on a bed or another soft surface?
Probably not. The air intake vents are located at the bottom of the cooler. If a surface is too soft it blocks the air flow under the laptop.
I know a lot more now. But still: if someone knows more, please post it.
I thank you all for your help. -
the bottom vents could also be suckin air in to blow out the sides, thats what my old laptop used to do
Could someone answer this question? [Redirect]
