Not sure what's been going on with my laptop lately, but suddenly it starting to freeze randomly every now and then. Anyway someone told me to re-install windows so I did. This fixed the issue for a few days, but then my windows wouldn't start anymore. Ended up doing it again and it was fine for a few days. Now the freezing has started again. It starts from the simplest of actions. Opening an internet window or media player can freeze my pc completely for about 5 minutes.

Do I need a new HD or something?

Anyway noticed this in task manager...not sure what it means

1 - Is your machine new? I remember you posting on the forum a few weeks ago asking about a machine but I cannot remember which one or what you went with.

2 - Does the problem happen on mostly bare installs of windows? I.E. Install windows, install drivers, install only trusted, common, basic programs (Firefox/Chrome/Opera, Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus, Steam, Skype, MS Office, etc) and nothing else?

3 - Is your battery installed on your machine? If it is, windows says you have a battery problem. Try taking it out and seeing if the freezing occurs.

Basically you wanna do process of elimination to see what causes the freezing or crashing. Though if it happens when opening programs, a hard drive error is probably the reason. You can download a trial of HD tune Pro and have it check your hard drives for errors to rule this out or confirm it.

are you installing windows clean or just reinstalling over the top of the previous installation? ~55 processes would indicate the former.

    both great advice above.
sounds like a hard drive but strange it runs fine for 2 days after an install. normally when sectors go bad the problem will be there most of the time.

just in case, run a full virus scan and if that freezes up half way through it could be the hard drive.

download HD tune from my sig below and run a sector scan and/or download the trial of HD Sentnal and run a scan with that Download Hard Disk Sentinel

Re-installing...I hope. I followed a guide and formatted the HD and then re-installed.

Weird thing is why it only happens a few days after the re-installation. As though the pc finally realizes something isn't right lol.

I'll run a HD scan and let you guys know.

And yeh I did post a few weeks ago with a similar issue. Like I said thing seemed fine and then it started again. I was just going to buy a new laptop, but I wanna battle this abit first lol!

That's why I asked what programs. People don't install everything as soon as they reinstall windows. It COULD be that a program has a problem with a piece of hardware you've got, or two programs conflict with each other. For example there was a time I thought Firefox was broken because it'd freeze every time I opened a web page for months. Turns out it was Bitdefender Antivirus that was giving it problems. So I want you to regulate your programs and see if the problem still appears with few rarely-used programs installed on your machine. (assuming the hard drive tests prove that your hard drives are fine).
