I have a couple of questions about these Clevo Notebooks before I order one.

I am very interested in the Clevo P170HM, P150HM, P151HM or the Force 1716.

I like the gtx 570m in the Force, and it is the only laptop I can afford with something other than a GTX 570m

I have been set on the P170HM but I have read that the stock screen is mediocre at best and I pretty much can only afford the stock config, with the 4x2gb downgrade through XoticPC.

I have also considered the P151HM, which I can afford with a better screen and it will fit into my budget. This is beginning to be the winner, as much as I wanted a 17" laptop.

It seems to me, that the 3 Clevo Based rigs will give me the same performance, and despite a higher cost down the road, I will still be able to upgrade the GPU in the P151HM if I so desire. But if I do the P151HM, I can get a nicer screen with the same performance as the others. I can even afford an individual copy of windows with it.

So, is it worth the drop in size to get a better screen? Do I get a Matte or Glossy 95% screen?

Or is the stock screen on the P170HM good enough, and that's the right laptop for me? Is the Xotic Force PC not worth considering despite the better GPU?

I do intend to game, but have a desktop for the long sessions...

Thanks for the help, hopefully I didn't overload you too much.

It's best to invest in the parts that are harder to upgrade down the road. The GPU and Screen are the two hardest parts in a computer and unfortunately those are the two parts that has you hung up.

I think you will like having the better screen better then the better GPU. While the GTX 570 gives you a nice bump in performance over the GTX 560M, in actual game play there wont be a huge difference in FPS.

The better screen is something you will benefit from in all computer use, not just gaming.

If I had to decide i'd get the 95% Gamut matte screen and GTX 560M

I love my system, it gets the job done. I have an older 17" Sager with a pretty standard HD screen and I think the np8130 matte 95% gamut screen is so much better. Plus the np8130 has less bulk than the 17" and feels more moblie.

BF3, Just Cause 2, GTA4, LoL, Starcraft, etc...

But remember I have a gaming desktop based around an i5 2500K and a GTX580 so I don't need ultra high end, this is for when football is on Sundays and I want to play games in the Living Room. Or I want to watch a movie, something of that nature.

So I will probably go with the following:

P151HM for around $1284 before any cash or NBR discount:

    Display: 15.6" 1920 x 1080 V.4 95% NTSC Matte Display

    Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560M 1.5GB GDDR5
    Hard Drive: 500GB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA 300

Since you have a rocking desktop, that config will be just fine for a mobile/occasional gaming rig.

I have a desktop i do most of my stuff on and a notebook with slightly lower specs then what you have listed and its worked out great that way.

Hutsady, thanks for your help, I ended up going with the P151HM with the Matte 95% screen. Thanks again!

Now its time to wait for the new rig to arrive!

congrats. I recommend you contact your reseller somehow and make sure all of the parts you wanted were in stock b/c there's definitely a chance that that would increase your waiting time by a while.
