Your CPU and your GPU should both downclock like that while on battery. It's normal and expected behavior to both 1) save battery life and 2) keep the machine running, as the battery doesn't have the power needed to run both at full clocks.

If you want to use the battery without it having to impact your performance, you could also manually change the clocks using programs like RMClock and Rivatuner (GPU). However, as MALIBAL #2 had stated, don't be expecting too much from the battery at that point.

In my laptop on battery mode in Super Pi test my CPU runs at full speed.

The speed "should" drop unless a demand for it is made in which case it will speed back up.

You "should" be able to change this by putting the laptop in "High Performance" mode in the power options under control panel.

In your tasktray look for an icon that looks like a laptop, right click and click "Power Conservation Modes". Put that on performance.

If you don't have this installed you are missing a sager app.

The only other thing you can do if that does not work is use a program to check your CPU temps and make sure they are fine and get one of the ones that lets you control the speed and set to max, otherwise may need to reinstall.

Glad that worked for ya :)

I have spent many years working with laptops so had to learn all these little odd things the hard way over time haha.

Anyway my only other advice if you are going to stay on performance (I do at least) is go into the power options in windows and advanced options and change the min cpu speed to 5% and keep max on 100%. I do it for both on battery and power adapter.

This basically allows your cpu to downclock when not under a load which keeps temps lower and uses less power, but without any performance loss because anything that puts a demand on the cpu it instantly jumps up the speeds.

The whole reason why the video card and processor downclock on battery is that the battery can't sustainably provide the watts needed to run both at full speed. So, that's just going to happen. You could try finding a specific underclock that makes it stable with the battery though, by using some of the "overclocking" software.

It is, but not at 100% full speed on the GPU/CPU. Think of the battery in these machines as a UPS- it's there in case you need to move between outlets or do some light duty work off the mains, but not for intensive work.

You can play most games at lowered settings on battery without problems though.
