Sorry if this is not in the right place, but I figured I'd ask here considering a lot of you are probably using the same burner as me. I have the P150HM and just tried to burn my first music cd and I seem to be having a little trouble. Every time I burn a cd the first 10 seconds of many of the tracks has a cracking or static sound. The rest of the song sounds fine however. At first I thought it was windows media player so I tried CyberLink's software that came with the laptop and I'm still having the same problem. Is this most likely a problem with the hardware, software or tracks? Have any of you had trouble like this? Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

HAve your tried hearing same tracks through the headphones?

If the headphones still do it chances are that it's a bad rip.

If the headphones play the tracks without crackle then probably your audio drivers or at worst hardware speaker has the speaker cone damaged.

Are there any in particular you could recommend? I'm not so sure it's the software though. Because some of the tracks burned fine. But only for one of the artists I put on the mix cd. Could that mean some of my audio files for the other artists suck?

as discs start burning from the inside out it could be a batch of dodgy discs.
out of the list the first is great and the only one ive used. does everything i need so havnt tried the rest.

Have you tried CyberLink software for burning? It was an extra bonus in the package from Malibal. I suppose I could try a third program when I get home from work to see if it helps. Then if that fails perhaps I'd have to buy some more discs >.<

Thanks for the link by the way. I gave you some rep.

i use cyberlink power director 10 all the time for video editing and also used power2go on occasions for music burn and its very good.
if youve got that then stick with it.

    cheers for the rep. :)

What speed are you burning your CDs at?
Also, is it only occurring with burned media? I didn't see any mention of original CDs.
What brand of CDs are you using for your burns?

^^good point. some unbranded ones can vary from x16 to x52 and i think they normally default to the fastest burn which is not always best.

i bought a 10 pack of maxell at walmart down here. as far as speed goes i usually do it at the slowest possible, which was 10x i believe. would that affect it?

Possibly. Have you tried original CDs? CDs that have not been burned to see if you get the same crackling sound on them? Try that out for comparison and see if you are still getting the same results. It will at least help you narrow it down further as to whether it is something with your audio or something with the CDs.
10x is a bit fast for burning speeds, faster than I like to burn at. CD quality may be a factor as well. I personally use Sony CD RW and DVD RW but there may be some that are better and Sony may be terrible.

I noticed the tracks that are giving me trouble are the ones that I ripped from friends cds. But when I play the tracks on my computer they sound fine. But for some reason when I burn them to a cd there seems to be a problem with the first 10 seconds of the tracks.

10x speed is the slowest option with cyberlink power2go.

I've narrowed it down a bit...

    - Definitely not my speakers or headphones...
    - Probably not the burning software (tried windows media player and cyberlink)

    Could it be the...
    - maxell cd-r pack that I got?
    - quality of the mp3s? when I play the mp3s through my computer they sound great. (some of them were originally .wma I think because I ripped them from cds)
    - the cd burner itself (i hope not)
    - the burning speed (10x is the slowest option so I go with that)

I honestly have no idea which one it is, but either way its driving me crazy. Which of these would you guys say is the most likely possibility? I've never experienced this problem before with burning cds in the past. I'm really hoping it's just the cds and I can simply buy a new pack.

The sound is basically like a crackling/staticy/strachy type noise in the first 10 seconds of like 3/4 of the tracks on the cd. It's a mix cd with varous artists and I noticed that one of the artists isn't affected by whatever is doing this. The other ones sound like sh*t for the first 10 seconds but then improve after those initial 10 seconds. Please help!

My guess would be that it was poor blank media. Back in the good old days when I still used optical media, I had that happen once in a while with bad disks. I'd try some fresh disks to see if that sorts it. You should also consider having your burning software do verification afterwards, so that way you'll know the burner part is actually functioning correctly.

Do you happen to know how to do that with cyberlink power2go? I would check but I am at work right now.

once youve dragged the tracks to the bottom box click configuration at top, then burner. verify recorded data is greyed out on mine (havnt got a spare disc to check)but i have enable buffer underun protection ticked.
could also try clicking the write simulation before burning but cant see how that would help as you need it burnt before you can listen to it.

Good news for me. Looks like I bought a pack of crappy discs (thank god it was only a 10 pack).

I bought 2 single discs of different brands just to test them out and the recordings came out just fine. Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys.
