Simple question to y'all. Would a 12.5" Hitachi 5K500 HDD fit inside an M860TU. I know for many this is likely to be a guesstimation (all takes are welcome) but if you actually know the size t'would be really helpful.

I assume you mean 12.5MM? It will likely not fit. All laptops we have worked with can only take a 9.5MM max.

Yeah, that's the one. Still, silly Hitachi. Creating something which won't fit in the majority of lappy's. Thanks Justin, you've saved me a small bundle. I guess I'll wait untill they release a proper 9.5mm version.

^^ wait about a month or so.

More 500GB 2.5" notebook HDDs should emerge.

And the prices should also go down.
Right now, they cost more than a desktop 1 TB 7200...

One question about M860TU HDDs: Would the 500GB 5400RPM or the 320GB 7200RPM be faster? I know that 200GB 7200RPM has similar speeds compared to the 320GB 5400RPM, so...

    The 320/7200 is faster.

The 320GB 7200 would be faster then the current 500GB offered.

And, you wouldn't need the complimentary shoe-horn for it, either! :D

Aaaah wow! I don't think I have that one in my collection of shoe-fitting utensils. All I need now is an internal shoe gauge and I'm set. :p

Do you think it's likely that future 500GB 5400RM HDD's for laptops will reach speeds near to 320GB/7200RPM drives?

The speed doesn't really bother me that much as it's not much of a leap considering the heat caused and he energy needed.
