I'm sure I heard someone mention you can manually crank the fans up to full on the 5720, which would of course be handy for gaming. I can't find mention of it anywhere in the manual though.....any help?

Aha! Just found reference to it on another forum. Seems like Sager has released a new firmware for the 5720 which allows you to not only manually control the fans, but also disable the touchpad and the DJ volume controls:

    Can't wait to try it!

Yeah, they don't mention it at all in the manual. Its a BIOS fix so it probably didn't make it to the manual printing.

Fn-F2 is the magic key to turn the fans on full.

    :)

Aha! Fn+F2. You would think I would have tried that already....

So I wonder if Fn+F1 disables the DJ buttons then. I'm away from my Sager right now so I'll check it later.

In addition to the Audio DJ buttons, Fn+F1 also disables the touchpad if you have the Elantech drivers installed. I hated them because there was no way to turn the touchpad off, but then I read (I'm pretty sure either here or NBF) that you can turn it off with Fn+F1. Works like a charm...and I'm back to the Elantech drivers! :p I kinda like the Audio DJ buttons, but if I need'em, I can just enable them really quickly.

Is that BIOS official? I can't find any information on it other than that forum linked above. I don't like to install a BIOS update from an unknown source.

I have seen numerous references to the ability to control the fan and the touchpad functionality with the Fn-F1 and Fn-F2 key combinations and since that doesn't work on my 5720 I assume my BIOS is older than the ones being released now.

Luke from PCT over at NBF posted it I believe, I can't seem to find the post.

If anyone does, feel free to quote it over here, I don't have a problem with that.

Why don't y'all email Sager and ask them about this update? I would think the guy who posted it on the other forum must have gotton it from them.....

Good idea! I just sent off an email to tech support at powernotebooks asking what they know of it. Likely they will contact Sager themselves if they don't know the answer. I don't want to void my warranty just yet.

A BIOS upgrade woudn't void your warranty, just be very careful when doing it.
