Hey, this may be typical, but it bugs the hell outta me. Whenever I run a few programs at once (of relatively higher sizes: e.g I run wmp, internet explorer, and Li****re) the sound becomes really distirted and choppy and skips a whole lot when Im playing a song on winamp or wmp. I mean it gets to the point where I either mute it or close out wmp or winamp. Now on my 5 year old dell, even when I was running 3 huge programs at once, and pushed my ram and processor to the point where it does only 3 floating-point operations per YEAR, the music played like a champ.

So any feedback would be nice.
    Thx

P.S. I tried reinstalling stock drivers and sownloading new ones for my sound card. No go. Still sounded crappy.

Have you tried giving WMP a higher priority in Task Manager?

Yes I have and Ive also done that to the realtek program that runs in the background and a few others. I've also tampered with the affinity of the cores, setting fewer for the bigger ones etc. Nothing. Still have the problems.

When you downloaded the new drivers, did you uninstall the old drivers first?

Just tried it. It helps a little bit, but only a little bit. It still sounds extremely distorted, but that did help.

I'm sure you've already done this, but I'll ask just for completeness' sake - have you also shut down as many of the background processes as you can, e.g., the indexing service - that service in particular generates a lot of I/O that could be causing performance delays in any app that relies on data streaming, such as an audio function.

The indexing service is that function that allows for faster searching right? No I haven't tried that. brb

ALright thats a lot better. Thanks, but it still stutters like every 5-10 seconds though. Do I have a faulty sound card? I really hope not

Remove the network cable and see if it helps. If it does, you`re flooded.
    Disable any intensive hd apps.
What am I saying,I`m playing Crysis with winamp and bitcomet in the same time and it`s working perfectly.
    Xp or Vista?
Also, consider updating the chipset drivers and audio(even if you did that before) BUT use CCleaner after uninstalling the older versions and after that install the new ones.

Network cable did diddly, and I don't want to disable the intensive hd (what context of "hd" do you mean?) because I like to use them as I listen to muzac. And yea, when Im playing Crysis, the music is fine after a map loads. Thats why I find it interesting and frustrating at the same time. I uninstalled the audio driver and the card driver, ran ccleaner (awesome program btw. Thx for the reference), and then installed the chip driver then the audio driver, the latter being the last installed. I restarted, and the audio is better. A LOT better. There's still some stuttering here and there, but it's something I can cope with. Im an audiophile, but I can live with this. Seeing as how that is the only disappointment in the (well "my" I guess) np9262, I'd say im really satisfied with it. You guys have helped a lot. Thanks. REP ALL AROUND!!

I`m an audiophile too, it`s why I use some pretty serious audio hardware.
As a last resort, consider a spring cleanup -format and reinstall windows :)

Oh I do a cleant install trimonthly. Its a good habit. And before I kill this thread, I was thinking about buying this

    http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?product=10769&campid=20445

How is it external? is it inserted into the express bay slot? If so, does that mean t can replace my soundcard, where as I use the xtreme audio as a sound medium instead, rendering my internal soundcard useless? And would anybody recommend it?

    Thx

    Yes,inserted in the express slot.
I myself have a Creative Live!24bit USB sound card and man it kicks ass. It`s too much volume paired with my Altec Lansing 2.1 home theater system :D

Really? My only beef with an express bay sound card is this: will it protrude from the laptop? Or can I just keep it in all the time (e.g. will I have to remove it in order to pack away my laptop into the carrying case)?

I have one for my Toshiba p35, it does protrude by 3/4 of an inch, and no, you don't neccessary have to pack it away, especially if the bag has padding on the sides. However, if you seriously think that your bag is gonna toss and turn all over the place. I suggest you have a small box with padding to carry that with the laptop as you don't want the risk of it breaking off.

By the way, try looking for updated drivers, I am pretty sure that could be your issue.
