Crashing when gaming on a Clevo P650HS after installing new NVMe drive

I recently bought a 1tb WD SN550 NVMe drive for my Clevo P650HS laptop as an upgrade to the original 850 Evo 250gb m.2 that came with the laptop.

Everything went well installing the new drive, but it hard resets my laptop regularly during games. I can browse the internet, work, do seemingly anything else but gaming. I tried taking out the other drives, still crashed. Tried updating any drivers. Tried using event viewer to find the problem, but it often gives a different error code each time. I tried everything I could and decided to put the original SSD back in and it worked like normal, no crashes. Figuring it was a faulty drive I RMA'd it and got a new one, which promptly did the exact same thing. I updated my BIOS to the latest version and no difference. I messed with power management settings, and still no difference.

Does this laptop have an issue with this Clevo model? I emailed the store I bought it from and they told me there are no compatibility issues with the drive. It sucks because otherwise, the drive is great, it's super fast and has no issues, until playing games.

Any ideas?

What is the crash looks like, what happens exactly? we need snapshot of the crash, what is the laptop specs? what games? do you use any cheats or hacking in games? what is the CPU/GPU temperatures when gaming?

I don't think this is related to the SSD,

 

It BSOD and hard resets the laptop. I can post snapshots, of event viewer? Laptop specs are: i7 7700 HQ, 16gb RAM, GTX 1070. It happens in any games; The Division 2, Total War games, SnowRunner etc. I don't use any cheats or hacking. CPU is around 80c, GPU 73c.

I know it doesn't seem like an issue with an SSD, but this only happens when using this SSD. Like I said, I can put the original SATA SSD back in and it doesn't crash.

 

Do you have any other SSD, if you try another SSD and have no issue, then the laptop is not capable of using fast NVMe's, and make sure your RAM settings in the BIOS is in the default,

 

I have put the old SATA SSD back in and everything works as normal. What do you mean by fast NVMe's? Which should I be looking for in that case?

 

Try to find if there is any BIOS related settings.
Try to switch between RAID/IDE and AHCI options.
Try to update the drive firmware, you can use WD tool for that,

Otherwise: Just keep using any SATA drives with any sizes, and consider upgrading your laptop if you like to have NVMe and better performance overall.
