Crossfire/SLI, but as individual/seperate GPUs for idle mining.

So I'm curious if I can have both a 6990m, and a 6970m connected to a Clevo that supports both cards, and use the 6970m (which would produce less heat) for mining cryptocurrencies while the computer is on.
Assuming heat output isn't too high (I'd likely underclock the 6970m a bit), I could game using the 6990m, or another card when it it's replaced with one eventually.
This is possible with desktops, even using an Nvidia card as the main card, and mining with the secondary (and otherwise unused) AMD card.

Can anyone test this if unsure?
I don't see how it isn't possible, and please don't warn me that "mining is bad for your GPU".

If I remember correctly, I did something similar at one point using two 7970m's. One was gaming, one was mining, crossfire disabled.

Yes you can run x fire off and do that. Notebooks tend not to like being loaded 24/7 though.

So this will work with 2 different cards?
    I assume I won't need a SLI/Crossfire cable?

You should be ok. No cable if no xfire/sli.
