NP9370 The Killer Machine!!!!

Finished the game, as usual with Crysis:
- The game that differentiates the medium PC Gamer from Killer Machine, either by lack of PC performance and/or Game performance
- Little boring in some parts
- Story too short
- Too many cutscenes
...
I just played to see if my PC can run it - hahaha!! -
Yeah Crysis 3 was way too short - expected a longer campaign. Some levels were fun though and the bow was really cool.
I ran the game at 1080p, SMAA2Tx, Very High Texture Resolution, All other settings high with motion blur off.
Average FPS (dependant on level) ranged from 40 to 60FPS. With intense action, FPS never dropped below 30.

*huggles galaxy note 2 with quad core goodness* does full desktop youtube 720p with no dropped frames.

*rolls eyes* why did i TOTALLY expect such a thing from u meaker?
but back to topic! whose phone is able to play crysis 3 maxxed out?

I've managed to get 993mhz temp stable now so am running a little faster. -
993mhz crashes on me after like 2 mins. Not that I need it though 980 is just fine. Just wondering are you on stock voltage meaker?

Are you all really talking about how to OC phones and run Crysis 3 on a phone on a thread for the P370EM O_O
-
lol
meaker came back to topic talking about his stable oc on the 680m coreat least im hoping so?

yeah we are back on topic, besides crysis dont work on a phone
-
well, considering the modern phones have roughly the performance of the current consoles - why couldn't we have crysis on our phones - after all the original was released for xbox and ps3 in 2007
-
well lets see...installing ubuntu linux on phones has already been proven possible, so now wed just need to install a crysis 1 linux port, if there is one? and then bench bench bench!

Steam is coming to Linux right? xD
Make it happen

What overclock do people run for gaming? I just want some examples so I know what ballpark to aim for. I am currently sitting at 950/2000 and after 3 hours I was sitting around 72C. But that was with playing Rift, not sure exactly how taxing it is. So (I realize this is a crysis thread) but is there a recommendation on which game I should use for heavy load testing? I tried Unigine Heaven 4.0 and I couldn't make it through the benchmark without hitting 90+ temperatures (on Ultra, Fullscreen, 1080p) at stock speeds. I was curious as to if that's normal? I have only ran this sort of synthetic benchmark on a desktop before.
Playing a game like World of Tanks, Rift, or CoD: Black Ops 2 I never saw more than 60C for hours at a time with stock speeds. -
I generally over clock to 915/1900 and never break 80 degrees except crysis 3. Some games i even go up too 980/2000 depending on temps. Keep in mind i need the extra fps to drive my 1440p monitor
I don't think 90+ on benchmarks is good generally I get much less heat than actual gaming. What temps do you get on crysis with 950/2000? -
-
I'll see what i can do when i get home today

yeah all games tax the system differently, crysis is an absolute killer though.
Anyway run Heaven and max temp I got was 84° I'm happy with that. I use gelid extreme paste and did the foil mod. -
Also, I keep seeing people mention the foil mod. Can you explain this to me? It sounds like something I would want to do. -
theres some pics concerning the foil mod in the 2960xm thread linked to in my sig
basically, u just apply adhesive aluminum foil to connect the fan casing with the heatsink fins in order for them to form a duct which is able to direct the airflow out of the machine much more efficiently. u can expect about 5C lower max temps, if not more

What I DON'T know is if Crysis 3 is a fireball-maker or a bread-warmer. I can safely say that Crysis 2 (the DX9 version) was more of a bread-warmer. -
I have a lot of experience building desktops, but the laptop modification and work is a bit new to me. I have worked on them but never anything up to snuff with the likes of a Sager.
How tedious and different from a desktop is reapplication of thermal compound on GPU and CPU? How much IC7 is recommended for each?
Thanks for the help! -
like I said i use a 915/1900 overclock constantly. reapplying thermal paste is really easy, I had my concerns at first too. there are lots af applying methods. for the gpu i put a tiny dot in the center and then put the heatsink on. for the cpu I spreaded it manually with a tool gelid provides. IC7 is fine I think, some people dont like it. personally I dont know, never used it. Its definitely among the higher-end pastes
About crysis 3 temps. Any kind of overclock above 800 on the core causes 89-91 degrees for me thats why I put all settings to low and run it on stock clocks. 78 degrees. Im just not comfortable with ~90°
crysis 2 dx9 with maldohd4 used to run at around 80 degrees for me -
I appreciate your help! -
yeah 915 seems to be the sweet spot for me
-
what kinda vram clocks did u set when u reached 90C as opposed to lower temps? could very well be that the vram is causing the core to heat up. oced vram generates insane amounts of heat and would thus directly influence the gpu core's temp as well. temp differences in games could thus be explained by the amount of textures being saved in the vram rather than the utilization of the gpu core. u guys could maybe compare the temp of ur core at oced vram vs. stock vram in the same game, that could clarify things
(no idea if my theory is right, would like to see the results myself
)
