Hi guys. Sorry if this thread sounds stupid.
Just wondering, based on the benchmarks and actual gaming,
what is the desktop equivalent of 485M/6970M in terms of performance?
-
-
If I am not mistaken the 485m is equivalent a lower clocked 560 desktop GPU. I could be wrong, can anyone confirm this? Not sure about the 6970m.
-
I saw somewhere that 485M is like 460. I can't just remember where so take it as if...
-
6970M=downclocked HD6850 from 775MHz to 680MHz
485m=downclocked GTX560TI from 822MHz to 575MHz
Thus, @default clock
6970M : 6790
485m : 460SE -
Actually, the 470m is equivalent to a 460 SE because both have 288 shaders. Note I'm not talking about performance here just specs. The 485m has a similar specs to a 560 Ti but lower clocks. Not too sure about the the 6970 but I think it is similar to the 6850, ichime's 1120 shader version is similar to the 6870.

Guys, thanks for your input. Btw, should we do a thread to consolidate the results benchmarks and gaming performance of 6970M/485M?
-
I made a thrrad not long ago with benches of my AMD gpu.
Feel free to check it out.
Cant link to it because im using a mobile browser.

Interesting because my 485m outperforms my boss's 6850 on his desktop by a decent margin...

Same CPU? Same chipset? One card @ x16?
@OP
Easy way to compare. I'd ignore 3DMark06, and go with Vantage benchmarks instead.

The 6970M is a downclocked Barts PRO (desktop 6850). Both share 960 SP's, 256-bit interface, GDDR5
The 485M is a bit trickier. It is a downclocked full GF104 (384SP's) giving it the same shader count as the GTX 560Ti (GF114), but it doesn't have the architecture improvements the GTX 560Ti does so it's more like a GF104
Your CPU is probably better than his too, since a i7 2720QM is > a i7 920 desktop in synthetics. But in real gaming, a 6850 desktop will crush a 485M -
The 485M benches directly at the level of the GTX 460 760MB.
It indeed does nearly equal the 6850 in some games. I once compiled a list of benches, and found that the 485M matches the 6850 in games such as Dirt 2 and Crysis.
Look it up.
The 6970M is a 6850, with just 12% and 10% taken off of the core and memory clocks, respectively. -
Anyone dare to try unlock their 6970M? Haha.
-
I've given it some serious thought, as a free 20% is pretty tempting. It all comes down to batch numbers, to which I have no access.
I may give it ago, but it's low on my list of things to do, upon first receiving a brand new machine. -
lol please do not use Dirt 2 to compare ATI and nvidia cards, Dirt 2 was poorly optimized for ATi cards and was made to run better with nvidia cards.
-
We could say that for a dozen games, going either way. It doesn't hold any bearing on the results.

Curious to know what is 485M/6970M desktop equivalent.
