I've got an old P170EM, I am wondering if anyone has had any luck unlocking resolutions/refresh rates to try and squeeze some more hertz out of their panels. I've spend quite a while trying different applications and ways to unlock additional settings/resolutions and had no luck. CRU isn't compatible with HD4000. So many things about this laptop seem locked down because of Optimus, etc. It's very annoying, virtually no settings available in both intel and nvidia control panels. I do have Prema V2, luckily decided to flash that few years back while it was still available.

    Thanks.

Not much left in my 1440p 120Hz panel on my machine, but my old panel back in the day was the 95% Adobe AUO panel at 90Hz, then the 17.3" was the 90% Adobe and that did 100Hz.

My issue is, I cannot for the life of me unlock any options... monitor just shows “generic pnp” which grays out “hide modes this monitor doesn’t support” and CRU does not support HD4000.... so how do I unlock more options to even try some new refresh rates?

There was talk of a beta Intel custom resolution tool iirc.

I was able to change refresh rate on a P150EM to 85hz with CRU on windows and edid-rw on linux. What I did was set custom resolutions in windows using CRU and export the new edid.bin file to linux. In linux, I used edid-rw to flash the edid of my panel with the new one from CRU. If you plan on doing this, just be sure to back up your old edid with CRU by exporting it before making any changes to it, flash the new edid to the correct address, and try incrementing your refresh rate by 1 (60, 61, 62, 63, etc.) each time you edit your edid with CRU.

Ah I think the intel updates are targetted at 6th gen and newer chips.

This sounds quite technical, i am very interested though as this looks like my only option. I just successfully upgraded my P170em to a 1060! Bought it off eBay and figured out the mods, .INF changes etc. it works great, huge upgrade over my old 670m 1.5gb. Any chance you could elaborate on this Linux/flashing, I have no experience in Linux . Did your panel originally just show as a generic PnP monitor? I feel like that’s the reason no other refresh rates show up... I’m surprised no one has found a way to edit that generic driver to allow other options.
