He is being provided a machine for review by a Gaming Laptop Junkies (focused on gaming prowess) and will be given the opportunity to purchase the machine when the review is finished. I second that @Phoenix. Brother @D2 Ultima is always going out of his way to help. His social media 'eBook's are valuable and informative. His occasional rant is always delightful. I am glad he is a member of this community and happy to call him a friend.

I am looking forward to his review and I hope my small token of appreciation helps him get the best configuration he can. I know his situation and money is tight, as it is for many of us. But I know it will be put to good use and benefit all of us as he retires his tired old Clevo and replaces it with something relevant.

@D2 Ultima - looking forward to seeing your first list of 1080 performance tweaks for gamers. Hopefully, funds will be sufficient for you to go with SLI.

What does this mean? You've mentioned it twice and I am not familiar with that.

 

It's an item in the Final Fantasy franchise which lets you revive dead/KOed members of your party.

 

A Phoenix Down is a recurring item in Final Fantasy games. If a character is K.O.'d or dead, using a Phoenix Down will revive them (usually with either 25% or 50% health, game dependent). The only person that has 100% no-chance-of-being-revived died (from the character's main party) that I know of in any Final Fantasy is Aerith/Aeris from Final Fantasy 7 who dies in a cutscene. He said I'm gonna go full Aerith so I'm trying to use alchemy to combine a potent enough Phoenix Down to survive

 

Ah, OK. Thanks for the explanation. And, now it's clear why I did not know what it means. I do not own or play any FF titles. @Phoenix was also curious and asked me. He thought you were saying to or about him and it made no sense to me either.

I will leave it out until then, maybe around the 16th-20th. I don't really want to rush, but as-is my laptop screen no longer works and basically I'm using my PC on an 8-year old 1360 x 768 TV. It might need a new screen or a new eDP cable if I cannot repair the connector. I don't want to wait too long.

 

With how close to release of the 1080 Ti and AMD solutions, it is likely the 1080 gets a price drop after release of the others.

It is just like with TVs, never buy at Christmas! Always buy 1-2 weeks before the super bowl! They are trying to liquidate inventory before the new releases, so they do deep discounts right before the major sporting event. Here, they may do some discounts, but with amd releasing Vega, depending on price point, it may force prices down on the 1080, as well as the Ti sitting between the titan xp and the 1080. But if the price was right....
