In a money-saving endeavor, would it be possible to purchase a D900 with only a single GPU, and later add a second 7950 to keep up with newer game engines? I'm not quite sure how MXM works yet, or how these SLI kits come equipped if you only ask for a single GPU.
Also, exactly how difficult would it be to get my hands on a 7950GTX after market?

yes you can just order it with one videocards...
go to the Clevo forum, many have done just that. -
as Gophn said... yes it is.... but you seem to be in the same situation i am, so id offer you my plan. which is buy the single 7950 now... but then wait just a few weeks for SLI8700s or a few months and go SLi8800s which will apparently be a big leap from 87. Also, there might be a 9series release for this DX10.1 stuff.. altho i dont know where they will compare to the 8700 and 7950.
as far as aftermarket. i kno there are some MXM cards being sold if u look on this forum, someone even has a website for them. But i dunno about the 7950. But like i said... your prolly just gonna wanna get a better card by the time u go SLI -
Thanks for the timely replies, guys. I've been researching notebooks tirelessly for almost a week now in between classes and I can safely say I'm prepared to make a purchase pending some price hunting and checking the funding
Much appreciated! I'll see you on the clevo forums! -
for D900... www.sagernotebooks.com www.xoticpc.com and my personally recommended favorite. www.pcmicroworks.com they may seem like they cost a lil more, but if you call them up and speak with sales rep. well, u get the picture.
and of course you can always check the Clevo Resellers guide... VERY nicely done Gophn
