D900C & M570RU videocards: Options & Availability
Recently there has been sooo much demand for these notebooks and so many threads on the same subject...
Alright, here is the run down (to date) on the current videocards available from the new Clevo notebooks (using MXM-IV).
This information goes for most (to all) Clevo resellers/vendors.

■ Nvidia Geforce 8800M (not officially named)
(could be the 8700M GTX above... not confirmed)
- Availability: rumored for Winter
VS.
:
- Quadro 3500M is the optimized equivalent to the 7950GTX
- Quadro 1600M is the optimized equivalent to the 8700M GT
Quadro is not really an upgrade, its only a modified version of its Geforce brother with optimizations for 3D modeling and rendering. Most would consider them to be "professional" versions of the Geforce line.
Quadro 1500M = Geforce 7800GTX
Quadro 2500M = Geforce 7900GTX
Quadro 3500M = Geforce 7950GTX
Quadro 1600M = Geforce 8700M GT
The performance/price ratio would not be good if you are just going to game. Quadros are for those that are actually going to use it for media work... and for those with disposable income. The Geforce performance is near same as Quadros in gaming environments.
And if you are wondering....
7950GTX vs. 8700M GT

The 7950GTX is still king..... (for now)

nice post! 8800m...come to me baby, ^_^.
-
Sweet & nice to know!
Someone sticky this thread!
-
So the 8700GTs are now available for the D900C?
I see them as an offering at Eurocom but no where else.
Sounds sweet though. -
the 8700M GT does work for the D900C... but the final tests for SLI is in the works.
-
Too bad we hardly ever get anyone that purchased from Eurocom on here. I would love to hear how 2 x 8700's perform. Since Euro is offering them.
I'm going to really want to see the #'s of the 8700GTX's in SLI.
Makes me wonder also since Eurocom, Pioneer and Xtreme are all offering Quad Core CPU's in their D901C's, IF a bios update is really necessary or IF it will work without an update. If I knew that the bios would accept a G0 stepping I'd buy one and try it out. -
What OS/driver combination was used in those tests anyway? I'm getting ~5500 at default settings in 3DMark06, which is about 700 points higher than they listed.
Could be they used a lower end CPU too I suppose, or less RAM...? -
Clevo did tests of 3DMark06 in different resolutions... which might have confused you.
The default test of 3DMark06 is 1280x1024...
- which the Clevo got 4790 -
rawr, I wish my D900 scored as high of a 3dmark as similar setups. I'm just unlucky like that. But a couple hundred point is next to meaningless anyway.
-
i was told the 5790 7950GTX was backordered, but the 9260 7950GTX was still shipping...is this wrong?
-
the M570RU and D900C can use the same modules...
but the D900C only has that option at the moment, so its probably getting more priority... while the M570RU has other options.
I'll confirm this later. -
) I assume that they were using prerelease drivers for the 8700m but I would be surprised if the drivers for the 7950 GTX have changed significantly. The only other factors with room for change are the CPU and RAM AFAIK. I would be interested in knowing a tiny bit more about their test.

Excellent post, gophn. I was very curious about the upcoming Quadro cards and you have answered my questions better than my sales representative could.
Edit:
Here is a product comparison between all the different mobile Quadro GPUs straight from the nVidia site:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_11761.html#mobile (you may have to scroll down to "NVIDIA Quadro FX Mobile Workstation Products") -
Thanks very usufull
-
Appreciate the periodic updates. Especially good news on the quadro 3500. You mention the 1600, but do you have any insight on a new DX10 high end quadro (3500+)?
-
Other than the Quadro 1600M, there is no other mobile DX10 professional card.
Its still performs as well as a 8700M GT (which is on par with a 7900GTX) -
well i got my 9260 yesterday with a 7950GTX in it. i think only the 5790 7950GTX is backordered..
-
thank god cause my 9260 "should" be shipping in the next copuple of days
Edit: where did you order from pb? -
i originally ordered the 5790, heard it would be delayed until September due to the 7950GTX, so i upgraded to the 9260...it was about a week and a few days wait total. -
I called around a few resellers such as Sager and xoticpc regarding the Quadro GPU. So far they said they are not sure if they will be carrying it. Which reseller was this information confirmed for the Quadro 3500m and 1600m cards? I want to get the 5790(m570ru) but it doesn't seem any vendors are verifying if it will be available in September.
-
They can get it for you, you would have to special order it.
... because Quadro cards are extremely specialized and uncommon for orders. -
the 7950GTX / 8700GT are gaming cards...the quadro line is more of a work card for CAD and such.
-
I'm on the fence about picking up a new laptop. Seems like a waste to blow a bunch of money on one with a 7950GTX with 8800's due in a few months. Any ideas on when we're realistically looking at D900Cs in stock with 8800's? I've read that the 8800's NDA is up in early November. If I purchase a D900C now with a 7950GTX, will I be able to purchase an 8800 card alone somewhere and swap it in? I could theoretically then sell the 7950GTX on ebay and recoup some of the cost of the 8800.
-
you should be able to upgrade your 7950
when the 8800 will appear is still a big question
I for one (and I'm not alone) expect nVidia to wait untill ATI releases something that can beat the 8700M. Then the 8800M will be top-of-the-bill
-
Some resellers are stilling advertising the prior version of the RU with the Quadro 2500. Secondly, it appears Dell's upgrade of the M90--the M6300--will be available Aug 31 and will carry the Quadros. The articles report a Quardro 3600m option.

So any updates on SLI 8700GT's in the D900C?
I see that Eurocom changed it's offering (again). They offer 7950's in SLI, but only a single 8700GT configuration.
Very strange. I can't imagine that a 8700GT take more power than a 7950. Both are type IV interfaces... what the deal?
A little worrisome. -
Where are the machine setups used described for the benchmarks?
We can assume that those were the same for both cards but is just an assumption. And if we want to make a comparison with ours we would need to know both the RAM used and the CPU. Also the benchs were taken both on Vista or XP? By looking at the values seams to be both on Vista but I don't know.
There is a fellow here that got 5824 (1280x800) on XP so 5500 @ 1280x1024 seams to be more the norm then quite good.
Trance -
actually, the 8700M is only MXM-III
(at least, in the M570RU it is)
