Hi. I got the D900C and am going at the CPU for overclocking. Everything is running well and finely tuned, but the CPU isn't able to be OC'd since the multipliers are locked by having a E6600 (not an "X" extreme version Intel CPU).
The CPU doesnt need it, it's all just fun.
So what I've done so far is determine it is an ICS PLL by looking out the PLL output via ClockGen/SetFSB. The revision has the lowest 2 bits set for revision, and the lowest bit set for vendor. It's definitely ICS. The byte 9 (10th byte if starting with 1 instead of 0) is 0x7E just like the M570U so I tried the trick of setting it to 0x7F to enable overclocking but it didnt work. A different bit is stopping overclocking via the PLL possibly.
ALSO, keep in mind the D900C clocks down my E6600 (and your CPU as well to some certain level) to 1.6GHz due to Speedstep. There seems to be some confusion as to why it won't disable Speedstep via Power Options configurations.
No matter what Windows Power Option is set, your CPU is being clocked down by around half its speed in most cases. It seems to be via BIOS setting C1E.
Until a new BIOS comes along allowing disabling of CPU Throttling/Speedstep to have your CPU get it's full potential on demand use RMClock from www.rightmark.org and be sure to do the following:
In advanced options DISABLE C1E! MAKE SURE TO CHECKMARK APPLY AFTER RESTART AS WELL. THATS IT!
Now that has been said, with Speedstep disabled overclocking can be reached effectively. So if anyone has the PLL model of the D900C/D901C please let me know! It's in the service manual. Any help finding the service manual or PLL will be greatly appreciated! PM me if needed.
Thanks!
