Hi everyone first post, long time lurker :D

I've been looking very hard to find the best notebook for my next system.

I'm so glad I found NBR as it's opened my eyes to the Clevo models.

I was looking at the M570U and putting it together from rjtech, saw the $300 discount from Sager and thats a killer deal. (so would place order there instead)

I noticed now the pre-order for the D900C.

I know the 900C will be very powerful, but my questions are... will it be a HUGE difference?

    What is important to me?

    1. Graphics card, would prefer MXM or other option to be able to upgrade if I wanted to (not rightly sure if Clevo cards are easly upgradeable).
    2. Heat / Noise
    3. Practical
    4. Easily to mod the case with paint

I want the best graphics card, these units have em' SLI or not SLI? I don't play too many FPS type games, but I do from time to time, mostly MMORPG or movies for youtube.

Intel Extreme? How Extreme is it? Once it's released will the prices drop again? How long will that take?

    3. I do like to take my notebook with me from time to time, but not everywhere I have a Ultra-portable for that, but it's def no fun for games.

    4. I've been looking at many different sites who paint and resell the system I'm a decent artist, I've been able to paint a few cars in my time with great results, but never have I attempted a notebook. (I'd love to try and may even buy a old system to test it out, in case I really mess things up).

    TIA :)

Well the Clevo M570U (a.k.a. Sager 5760) is the best bang for the buck 17" gaming notebook at the moment, its videocard (7950GTX) would easily for 2-3 more years.
The D900C might not something that you should just look at, the upcoming M570RU is supposed to be annouced for shipping in Summer-Fall 2007. It wont actually replace the M570U because they have entirely different designs. Although the good points about the M570RU:
    - it has new mobile Intel COre 2 Duo chipset
    - supports up to 4 gigs DDR2
    - has new videocard module design [which is also on the D900C] that should support high-end DX10 cards when they are available [projected to be this summer]. Initially, the new Clevo's will ship with 7950GTX's.

The D900C is a true desktop replacement, its cooling is probably improved compared to its predecessors (D900T/K). Current Clevo gaming notebooks are amazing cool. The M570U videocard temps are about 20% cooler than in my D900K, so the thermal designs have been improving as new models come out.
You [as well as most people] should not need to care much about the CPU, since it is never the bottleneck in gaming and casual use... its only noticeable for heavy encoding [audio/video] and rendering.

I would recommend to get the Clevo M570U now (since there is a deal), or wait for the M570RU if you want a newer notebook that would have a few more upgradeable for the future [but probably for a premium].

The prices for these "boutique" brand notebooks are very steady, so the Sager $300 discount is very rare. I got my notebook back in March 2006, now it has only dropped in price by 20% at best.

Check out XoticPC (a great Sager reseller), they have a great service for custom paint jobs.

Here are some great works from them:

Not extreme enough to justify the price tag. Definitely skip the Extreme; Intels pricing for its top-tier processors are always off the charts. The best price/performance processor is almost always the third one down from the top, so the E6600.

I'd recommend waiting for the M570RU with the Santa Rosa platform as well; there's nothing wrong with the M570U but it's based on the current Napa platform which is over a year old.
