Part 1.) The original video-card is the nVidia 7800 GTX, and I am "wanting" to upgrade to the nVidia 7950. I'm under the impression this is possible. Anyone able to confirm it?

Part 2.) The mobo has threaded receivers for the video-card, heatsink, and fan to attach to... one of mine has come off of the mobo. Anyone know if I can re-solder the thing without causing too much stress to the wafer?
The solder gun I have can adjust temps, but... don't want to cook something beneath.

Any help on either of the two questions above would be greatly appreciated.

(Alienware Aurora m7700 is my laptop model... same chassis as Clevo D900K, though.)

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

Yes that notebook can upgrade to 7950GTX (Clevo proprietary module) without needing a motherboard upgrade.

if you are talking about the standoff of the motherboard, read here for my tip to get around it:

    Thanks, Gophn !!!

I really appreciate the info about the paper. Should come in handy... but, finding the replacement card is becoming more of an issue than I'd previously imagined. The first place I ordered the card from e-mailed me today and said they were out-of-stock and would not be expecting any more due to the age of the technology... but, thankfully refunding my payment. I did find a card from AVA Direct, but it shows that the card is for a D901C... which I am not familiar with, yet... and, assume an incompatibility.

I believe that eurocom.com was a possible supplier, but... I'm e-mailing them, at the moment, to ask about availability.

Gophn, you seem to be the aficionado when it comes to my machine... since we have the same specs. I just was hoping to get... well... " your" advice before spending the cash to replace the card after my answer from the first supplier.

    I appreciate the help.

    Thanks, again...

And no... I now realize that the D901C is an MXM IV card... and, I am looking for a III.

    Answered my own question there.

Z-tronics has some in stock, if you want Jerry's phone number shoot me a PM, and I can give you the guys phone number. He is very knowledgeable about the system. I have the same system as you do, and I just bought my new D900K motherboard through them a few weeks ago.
They shipped the product well, and in a brief amount of time.

The D901C graphics cards will not work with your D900K

The D900K does not use MXM, it uses Clevo proprietary port.
