Hello! Long time reader but never registered since I can usually find the answers to my questions via search. However, a recent issue has surfaced with my Sager and I had multiple questions I hope to have answered.

    1. Yesterday, my GeForce 9800M GTX died. I was wondering if replacing it with another 9800M GTX was possible and if so, where could I purchase one? I've seen some people mention rjtech and I checked the site and it listed the graphics card I needed for ~$950. Is this a good price?

    2. If it's cheaper to get a more recent card to replace my 9800M GTX, could anyone make suggestions and perhaps list places I could purchase the card from?

    3. For clarification purposes, I cannot replace my 9800M GTX with a 9800 GTX, correct?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. It is 100% possible to replace it, but $950 is not a good price.

    2. It would be cheaper to replace your 9800m GTX with a GTX 280m, which is slightly more powerful. You would need an MXM 2.1 Type III variant of it. This is of course assuming you do not have 2x 9800m GTX SLi.
    A) You would also need to flash your KBC/EC firmware and your BIOS to .13N (KBC/EC) and .22 (BIOS)

    3. Correct. 9800m GTX = Mobile, 9800 GTX = Desktop

It seems that is cheaper to replace the video card with a 280m . Proably the 9900m gtx is so expensive because it was intended for the people who wanted SLI.

one of the stores: MXM Upgrade Home Page
There are as wel other stores. I saw a thread with a dozen of llinks, sorry I am too layzy to find it.

The best option for a new card would be to buy the 280M GTX (best and most probably last card available for Clevo D90xC). But you can find a used 9800M GT or 9800M GTX as a "cheap" replacement.

The 9800M GTX is more expensive because they where more expensive from the manufacturer. We always want to get at least what we paid for them so they remain expensive until demand drops and resellers have no choice but to discount just to sell the part. Check EBay for a better price???

The 280M is a popular choice but strictly speaking was never certified for the D900C. Lot's of people are using one in the D900C and it is much cheaper then the 9800M GTX

    Thanks

I researched this for several weeks, and finally decided to bake my 8800M GTX. Glad to say my backlight is working now, and I'm running games in sli at full resolution. Why not give that a shot? You may as well buy a desktop if you're going to shell out that much cash for an outdated video card.

You could also try reballing, if you're daring enough? I probably don't know what I'm talking about. Regardless, after much apprehension, my graphics card is working (for the moment).
