Not sure if I should get this system or not. It has 4200+ with 2gig RAM I think with a 6800 Video card. I only need it for studying for my CCNA. I would maybe install WoW on it. Also does vista run ok on them? Any info would help. Person is asking $450 for the system.

2gb of memory is the maximum for the Clevo D900K

The fastest processor which can be installed is the AMD FX-60 / Opteron 185

    The graphics card is upgradeable.

I own this system and honestly, look elsewhere if you want a gaming laptop.
If you want a good system on the cheap, check out the Gateway 6860FX or a XPS 1710, or Dell E1705. There are much better systems out there than the clevo D900K. Trust me, I own the thing with its maximum specs and it has been nothing but trouble since a month after I got it.

i would also avoid the d900k and d900t as they are plauged with either motherboard or gpu problems.

What would you guys suggest I get them? I really do not want to spend more than $500 since I have a gaming desktop rig. I only need to to study on and play WoW sometimes. It does not need to be high setting just something that I could use sometimes.

You should have came to notebook review two days earlier.
there was a XPS1710 with a dual core processor and the 7900GTX for $500
    it is sold now

The E1705 is probably your best bet for a cheap gaming computer

check out the for sale section here, and hardforum for good deals on used laptops

Don't get an e1705. Garbage waiting to be stuck in the trash. Suffers a similar problem to the 8400/8600 cards-compatible systems in that they overheat and cause an irreperable malfunction on the motherboard. Just google it to see how widespread it is.

Sorry, have to recommend against the e1705 since I had it for nearly a year and a half. XPS 1710 I would definitely recommend. Get one with a 7950 GTX, as I recall reading the 7900 GTX was more prone to overheating wear.

On both the E1705 and XPS1710, you can install I8KFANGUI, which can control fan speed. I have two friends with XPS1710's and one with an e1705. All three of them have used I8kFANGUI to force the fans to full speed. The temperatures are very low even when gaming and none of there systems have had graphics failures.

If you dont use fan control software chances are the card will burn up. I must have seen maybe 50 people in the last 2 years here looking for replacement graphics cards for them.

Well the guy I am looking at getting it from has a new 6800 card in it. It was just replaced because to last tech forgot to plug the fan in. Has a 4000+ CPU. I have seen the system and seems to be in good shape. Was used to do CAD. The guys business did not survive so doesn't need this anymore. I would love something newer but cost is the issue. Also local guy willing to take payments. I am kinda torn here.

Yes, the 7900GTX is a good graphics card even on todays standards. It is better than a 8600mGT but a little slower than the 8700mGT

Its a very good deal on that laptop. You will not be disappointed with it.

The XPS1710 can support any SATA 9.5mm thick 2.5" 150/300 drive so you can put a 500gb 5400rpm or 500gb 7200rpm drive in it, and it will work fine

Sweet. My old laptop had a 7400 and it was not bad to play on. My desktop has the new 295 which rocks but I only need the laptop to study on and maybe WoW.

My friend has the 1710 with a 7950GTX and T7600 and it pushes 100fps in WOW, and still gets 35+ in heats.
Just crank the fan to full before gaming and the system will last a long time.
If you do not turn the fans on full it will shut down from too high of temperatures. Keeping the dust out and the fans at full prevents that from ever happening

Peak temperatures on his 7950GTX are around 75C when gaming, so the 7900GTX should run about 70C when gaming with the fans on full.

Yes. So far I like it. I have been really busy the last two days so have not been able to use it much. Wife has doctor appointment today but after I am going to install some stuff and check it out more. Seems like a nice notebook for the price.
