Hi I have a D900k that I bought 2 yrs ago. I was playing Company of heros and the game started to lag and then froze. I turned the power off and felt the video card cover at them bottom and it was boiling hot. So I opened it up and felt the fan crapped out, because I turned it on once agaon after the card cooled down adn the card turned hot pretty fast but the fan did not turn on. So I forced switched it off once again. But now it wont start up all together even after keeping it off for a day. When i turn the power on the blue power light turns on, but thats it, it sounds like it keeps restarting its self. Any help, does any one know what to do... This is my first post.

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

If your fan does not work anymore, it might have burned out.... from overheating.

Hopefully you have been vigilant to clean out the vents and fans regularly with compressed air and Q-tips.
    - if not, that could account for that happening.

As for troubleshooting, I recommend to:
    - remove the videocard module carefully
    - look to make sure the heatsink casing is properly secured onto the videocard module
..... if not, re-secure it and maybe re-apply thermal compound to it
    - then carefully and securely re-seat the videocard module onto the motherboard.
..... make sure its down and secured with screws

    then fire it up.

    does it still POST?

Gophn, thanks man for that super fast response, just goes to show how supportive you guys are, awesome discussion board. OK yes I have been vigilant about keeping it clean. I took the card out and I have done that several times before so I'm good at it. Put it back together, put a fresh coat of thermal grease on it and all nothing. I removed the memory one by one nothing. I removed the Hard drive nothing, I removed the battery, nothing. I checked the power supply its fine, I checked the power supply connectors still the same problem it clips of so quick it does not have a chance to do any thing else. The blue halo light stays on, the wireless internet light comes on and clock light is on too.. After it gave me this problem it turned on twice but froze when the video card heated up. Nw when I tried to power it up this morning, it just won't power up...

I, as well as some other D900K owners of this forum, have taken out notebook apart many times... for upgrades or cleaning.

I highly recommend to do the following:
    1) remove all non-essential components
    - notebooks big battery
    - HDDs
    - Wifi card
    - TV Tuner card
    - optical drives
    2) try to boot it up again.
    3) if the system does not boot again, I recommend to look at the videocard's screws and stand-off on the motherboard... are they still good?

    tell me how it goes.

there are four of them for the videocard module.

make sure they are all there and in good condition on the motherboard.

hummmm...also try holding down the power button for like 10 to 15 seconds... the computer may power on then power off again...or just power off....after the 15 seconds are up..push it again to just power on...see if this does anything....

Hi guys I'm back. Ok so I took the whole laptop apart, and had nothing connected to the motherboard except the monitor, graphics card, 1 mem module and the processor, it showed me the same signs, the power light would come on and then the hard drive light would blink with like a 2 second gap between each blink, and the blink duration is for about half a second. I noticed the processor would get pretty hot fast, I looked at the board real close for sign of stuff burned out, but every thing looks fine. I then connected the Hard Drive and I could hear it start up but the screen is still blank, by the way I hooked it up to an external monitor. If I turn it on with out the hard drive connected would it still show the bios screen?? I feel it could either be the motherboard or the processor. Well hell at this point I have no idea what the problem could be...I also held the power button for a while and the card slot and the hard drive started to blink Any advice guys.. Thanks in advance...

if you have a quad desktop...you could switch the chips to see if it's a chip problem or a mb problem

the BIOS should still appear even if the HDDs are not there.

Since it does not POST.... I recommend to see if it could be the keyboard and/or firmware.

remove the keyboard as well... leaving CPU, RAM, and videocard the only things in there.

then try to boot it up again.

if not, then I would test to see if the AudioDJ front panel still works:
    - make sure notebook is off
    - turn on the AudioDJ with the power button there (not the notebook power)
    - if it comes on, then the notebook is still getting proper power.

Have you tried resetting the CMOS by removing the battery from the motherboard and holding the power button down for 5 seconds or so? If the BIOS configuration tables have become corrupted, that might be preventing the system from POSTing or booting, and should (fingers crossed) be resolved by wiping the old tables by removing the CMOS battery and discharging the system by holding the power button down for several seconds.

Shine a flashlight on the screen and see if you have a screen but just no backlight to it. The screen will be too dark to see normally but with the light at just the right spot you can see a very darkened screen.

If this is the case, it is likely the Inverter Board. Mine went out last week {3 yr old Alienware m5500}. The Inverter Board is {at least on mine} behind the LCD screen {Something I am not gonna open up myself}.
