I searched this sub-group already and I couldn't find a yes or no if I could install my own E6750 or Q6600 in my barebones that I plan on getting. I'm highly skilled at taking apart laptops and putting them back together, but is there some special skill or will it void my warranty? Any other steps besides removing the clamps and heatpipe, reapply arctic silver and put back toghther? Please let me know if I'm asking for trouble.
P.S. I already have a watercooled server already that I've had for 6+ years. I know hardware.

The answer to whether you can install your own processor or not is yes. However, whatever part(s) you choose to install will not be covered by the warranty nor any damage associated with upgrading. The warranty still applies to the rest of the system.
Some examples . . . (not limited to the following)
-If you damage the motherboard while installing the processor, that is not covered
-If the notebook refuses to work after installing the new part, that is not covered
I am not sure of the difficulty level though. Perhaps someone with an NP9262 can advise. -

If you are experienced with installing CPUs, as it sounds like you are, it should be no problem.
However while Chaz has correctly stated the Sager warranty policy, you should check with your barebones vendor to confirm what their warranty policy is. -

Yes I should have stated that was Sager's policy. Sager does offer a better warranty than most places . . . as noted, send an email.
It wouldn't really make sense if you bought a barebone and couldn't install your own CPU without voiding the warranty now that I think about it though. -

Thanks! The laptops I usually deal with have the cpu soldered on. I found this guide, which just reinforces my assumptions. http://www.directron.com/laptopdiy.html
BTW, Directron is just a few miles from me. I love the place! -
Seems like that guide would give a good idea on assembly, only thing to note is they don't mention anything about Thermal Compound/heat pads.
D901C - Can I install my own cpu / processor ?
