So I am probably super paranoid these days, since I havent had this thing in 4 months, and it comes back missing things, and different.

First of all, trying to fix some issues I updated to the latest BIO and KBC a couple days ago. Since then I am noticing things, that may or may not be "new".

My GPU fans seem to come on kind of abruptly and one right after the other. I don't think I ever really noticed them do that before. They will be off completely then suddenly spin up fast for half a second, one right after the other. Its abrupt enough that while using at night when its quiet in my house it has startled me several times. I seem to remember them being a bit more gradual. Mostly its the fact that they both start up at what seems to be a slightly higher speed for half a second, then settle at mid speed. I'm assuming my gpu drivers have nothing to do with the fans right?

depending on the temps of your videocards... each fan will come on with it reaches a specific temp... usually around 60C.

you can keep the system cooler if you want to make sure that the thermal compound is newly applied.

or if you want to not have the fans on Auto Speed... just toggle them to max constantly .... Fn+1

I have the fan problem on a samsung of mine, but thats using an 8600m gt (could be defective), maybe you should use your previous bios? Just to check prehaps.

As far as the thermal compound, don't my 8800's have a large blue thermal pad, and not paste?

I would use max fans but my system beeps if I do, then shuts down. I have to run in power saver mode so that nothing gets warm enough to bring fans to max, or it beeps and dies.

My main concern about the fans coming on like this, is that it seems much more abrupt than when I first got my machine. I will see if I can record the sound of them coming on, and post a link.

And I do understand that the fans come on at different time based on temp, since one gpu is always about 3-5 degrees warmer. But I guess the thing that freeks me out, is I don't remember ever being faced with that reality before I sent my machine back to PCMW. Meaning I don't remember it being so audible. Can any D901C owners confirm that they can easily hear the exact moment each GPU fan starts?

the video memory uses pads.... the GPU is usually using some sort of compound.

Not on topic, but maybe related. You are the seconf person who has problems with fans on maxim. Maybe the gpu fans problem is related to shut down when the fans are on max (which is not normal).
