Will the D901C (or equivalent) be available to buy in the UK in the next month or two?

If you're looking for a 17" SLi Laptop in Europe then the Alienware m9750 is the only option available (Its not overpriced, the US version might be but in the EU it sells (with a single 512mb 7950GTX) at the same price at all the other 7950GTX and in SLi... well there's no competition at the moment and the Clevo 900 is a weak competitor - mainly because its definitely not a laptop.

I'm not looking for SLI and it turns out I don't need to rest my new laptop on my lap. A desktop replacement is perfectly fine for me. I'm looking for the D901C simply because it uses some desktop parts, which are cheaper than notebook components AND the July 22nd price cuts will mean £1600 will buy me a better notebook.

The Alienware uses the old Napa chipset anyway which doesn't allow more than 2.8GB of memory.

Then how come you can get it with 4GB RAM?

£1600 already gets a great 17" Laptop from Rock, Evesham etc.

Good Luck finding a D901 in the EU...

Because it's a way for them to make money. I recall reading somewhere that a company (I can't remember the exact one - Dell springs to mind) were selling a desktop with 32bit windows, dual 7950GX2 graphics and allowing the ability to upgrade to 4GB memory. In reality, the system is automatically limited to a maximum of 2GB since the 2x1GB of the GX2s must be mapped onto the 4GB limit.

Besides, I already asked Rock and several people confirmed that the maximum possible memory is 2.8GB on a Napa chipset.

That's true and I already have my eye on a Rock laptop but I want to keep my options open until the last possible moment and the D900C/D901C looks like a real possibility.

Well so it seems they'll have D901C (Frankenstein), M570RU (Nosferatu) and Werewolf maybe Quanta o Compal one.
They have good prices I think (compared to Alienware and Rockdirect) and they have 24 month warranty

They do have very good prices but I am not sure about their warranty. I'll have to check up on that because I don't want my notebook dying on me in the middle of my university term.

This seems quite interesting I was actually wondering if us UK gamers would be left in the dark ages. Happy to see we actually have a chance, I was originally going to buy the Rock 770 before September but if any news on it not supporting a 8800m comes out I might hold out, (also going uni).

I do not know much about DPC, but some friends in Italy and Spain have the "old" Nosferatu and they're pleased.

How can we have more info?
Yes I think Nosferatu Santa Rosa would be as the Rock 770.
They're both Clevo M570RU so I think vga would be upgradable to 8800

    I asked:

    They replied:

It would be wonderful if the notebook supported 1333MHz processors. I'd be able to get much better specification for my budget.

It looks like warranty is a standard RTB, but the extra warranty options do sound pretty enticing... It would be nice to have financial help towards a better notebook a few years down the line.

I'm not entirely sure the motherboard will ever support 1333MHz bus speeds though, the P965 chipset is listed as going up to 1066MHz maximum. Can a bios update really allow higher FSBs?

Mmm I'm not sure but for example the old Clevo model D470K had AMD 3200 cpu and now with a BIOS update you can use the new Turion on it.
Maybe a BIOS would make it compatible.

Hmmm, well let's say the 1333MHz chips can be placed into the P965 motherboard. Would they actually run at their rated speed or will the 1066MHz limit actually reduce the speed to (1066/1333)*(whatever frequency it should work at)? I don't want to buy an E6750 only to have it's speed reduced by 20%.

EDIT: The difference between Intel and AMD chips though is that AMD chips don't have an FSB.

Uhh... just one thing, if their current Lappies are overpriced, chances are that their new ones will be overpriced as well...

Here are 4 Laptops all with the following specs:

    WideUXGA 1920 x 1200
    Core 2 Duo T7200
    7950GTX
    1GB RAM
    Vista
    160GB 5400 RPM hard drive:

    Evesham Voyager Pro CAD720 Plus
    £1710.38 with 120GB Hardrive

    DPC Nosferatu
    £1.756,62

    Alienware Area-51 m9750
    £1,381.80, with SLi £1,715.50, with 3 year warranty £1,539.25

    Rock Xtreme CTX
    £1517.99

    (All prices include UK VAT)

The Rock, the DPC and the Evesham are all the same Clevo m570U Chassis, the Nosferatu is the most expensive of the lot, and the Alienware (lol, can't believe I'm actually saying this) is the cheapest

I repeat: Alienware = Cheapest lol...

    lol

But how you made this configurations?

Alienware real price for the same configuration is:
Display: 17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD with Clearview Technology - Stealth Black
Operating System: Genuine Windows® Vista Ultimate - English
    TV Tuner: None
    Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7200 2.0GHz 4MB Cache 667MHz FSB
    Graphics Processor : 512MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7950 GTX
    Memory: 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz - 2 x 512MB
System Drive: Single Drive Configuration - 160GB 5400 RPM SATA
Optical Drive: 8x Dual Layer DVD+/-RW / 24x CD-RW Combo with Nero Software
Sound Hardware: Intel® High-Definition Audio (24-bit, 192Khz) with surround sound
    Keypad: Mobile Keypad - English
Wireless Network Card: Internal Intel® PRO Wireless 3945 a/b/g Mini-Card
    Communications: Integrated 10/1000Mb Gigabit Ethernet & 56K V.92 Modem
    Bluetooth: Integrated Bluetooth® Device
Warranty: AlienCare 2-Year Free Phone 24/7 and Collect & Return

    and the price is £1,635.53
(maybe you forgot 2 years of warrant of the right display res?)

    DPC Price same configuration is:1706
    Rock Extreme CTX is 1656
Evesham doesn't have the same notebook with 7950GTX (pro cad has Quadro and no 160hd)

So the cheapest is Alienware but only for a few pounds. Beside that Rock and DPC have perfect pixel warranty included.
I also think that new Rockdirect and DPC notebooks the new price would be cheaper. Alienware already have a laptop with 2 sli vga, core 2 duo and 3 hd and the price is really higher than 1600-1700 of the DPC Frankenstein (and this one has Conroe).
I think DPC or Rock would be my choice. Anyway Rock doesn't has the D901C right?

This is what my screen displays (including UK VAT)

    Base Price: £1,198.50
    Screen upgrade cost: £130 ( 17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD with Clearview Technology [+£130])
    Processor Upgrade cost: £53 (Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7200 2.0GHz 4MB Cache 667MHz FSB [+£53])
    Warranty Upgrade:
AlienCare 1-Year Free Phone 24/7 and Collect & Return
AlienCare 2-Year Free Phone 24/7 and Collect & Return [+£116]
AlienCare 3-Year Free Phone 24/7 and Collect & Return [+£157]

    £1,381.80
    Price reflects £0 instant rebate!
    Price reflects £0 mail-in rebate!
Incl. 17.5 % VAT, excl. Del.

I would go for Rock since the current DPC's are so overpriced, oh and btw, If people are really buying the Dell 1330 at a premium because it offers a little bit of portability over other 13" laptops then I think the majorly increased portability of the AW is worth a 50-150 UKP premium.

And lol, since when are CD's more expensive than DVD's:

AlienRespawn v2.0 Recovery DVD – Windows Vista Edition [+£29]
AlienRespawn v1.0 Recovery Kit – Windows XP Edition [+£31]

    EDIT

This is what I dug up in my older posts, just to show I was looking at the same prices all along:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7400 2.16GHz 4MB Cache 667MHz FSB [+£123]
    In a hurry? Select another option for faster delivery. Best Price Performance! + 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz - 2 x 1024MB [+£79]
In a hurry? Select another option for faster delivery. Alienware Recommends! Does in fact match the price above... although now its 9 pence cheaper: £1,583.90

^^^ Yup, looks like the Clevo to me....

Oh yeah this is the 900 series side on:

Compare to the Alienware side on:

To compare prices you got ot prepare exact configuration as I did.
    The correct prices are:

    Alienware £1,635.53 (without perfect pixel)
    DPC £1706 (with perfect pixel)
Rock Extreme CTX £1656 (with perfect pixel)
    Evesham doesn't has same notebook

So my choice would be between Rock and DPC
Anyway I'm thinking about another notebook the D901C and only DPC seems to have it.

This posts were a little OT

    so....../OT for me :D

This post was made for D901C, Alienware is another notebook and does not have Conroe cpu.

Our question is: where to find here in UK D901C or a notebook with Desktop cpu?

Nowhere at the moment. - there, I answered it

-Elegy, I'm curious as to why you need the Desktop CPU in an unmovable laptop in the first place? At 1200UKP you can easily get a C2Q if processing power is what you're looking for, and then spend the other 500UKP on lil portable laptop to carry around... I'm baffled as to why you need such high specs AND be on the move?

That would be the plan except it's a lot of hassle to bring a desktop back and forth from university and there's a massively increased risk that something will go wrong. I know that with £1200, I can buy some pretty amazing components that will put any laptop I buy to shame but unfortunately, it's just not possible.

I don't think my parents even have room enough in the car to fit a monitor, keyboard, case, mouse and speakers. Perhaps if I could buy some kind of storage compartment or something to wrap the components in that minimizes the effect of a bouncing car for an hour, I might change my mind. It's a remote possibility though, especially seeing as I'll have to set up the desktop again and again. It's so much safer, easier and faster with a laptop.

I don't need the notebook to be portable anymore though, I've decided to just get a desktop replacement and take notes in the lectures by hand.

I wouldn't expect a reply too quickly. I wrote them an email a few weeks ago and they still haven't replied.
