So I am playing a game under Windows XP, and my machine starts beeping (three beeps in a row, then is quiet for maybe a minute, and does then repeats the same thing) for no apparent reason, and definitely not part of the game sound effects. Initially I didn't notice any other problem so decide to temporarily ignore, but it keeps recurring about every minute. I switch out of the game, and the beeping behavior stops.
I try the game again, and the beeping starts again. I notice that simultaneous with the beeping, the LED Status Indicators for Caps Lock Activated and Scroll Lock Activated blink! I have no idea what this apparent Warning means. If it makes any difference, I am using a program called "Launch n Set" to set single processor affinity for this older game.
Once I quit the game, the beeping stops, and there no other apparent warnings or problems.
Any help on this? Thanks in advance!

What Rambo29 is trying to say, I think, in his own inimitable way, is that you need to update your KBC firmware.
-
Ahhh, thanks all. It does indeed seem to have been a warning related to overheating. I forgot to press Fn+1 to set the fan to high speed. Since doing that, no more beeping after several hours of gaming.
Pardon my ignorance, what is KBC firmware?
Thanks again. -
read the link rambo posted
it is not related to overheat or heat-related at all. it is a faulty KBC firmware that you should update to solve the beeping issue. you should not have to run max fans and it is not considered a solution to the beeping. just ask your vendor for the updated KBC firmware.
edit; i mean max fans solves the beeping but is not a good solution. just update your KBC firmware as advised. -
OK, that was a long thread, so I just read the first page, and assumed it was the fan issue.
Thanks! -

KBC/EC = KeyBoard Controller/Embedded Controller, so close BJF

make sure you have a decent amount of space behind your laptop, you can quickly overheat if the heat exhaust from the back does not have room to circulate.
-
And raise the back a bit, clean the dust, don't download porn etc
-
the d900c already is elevated in the back by design. it has gian rubber feet and taller standard rubber feet as well.
-
Is it raised 1.5 inches at least?I don't think so..
My RU has rubber feet too, but raising it artificially made a 5C difference.Which is a lot for me. -
no it's raised .5 of an inch.
i am not a fan of raising laptops or using notebook coolers to cool them down. they are designed with thermal solutions as it is. why run the risk of raising the laptop and worrying about having it slide of whatever you used to raise it with (like using quarters or books) and havint the hassle to memorize all that. just run max fans if you are worried about temps. -
Why raise it?
Because it's easy and will also help typing for that matter. At least for me.
And furthermore,if raising it is a big problem, then I think we're talking abut something else here : -

If you raise it the fans can take in more air.No brainer.
