Perhaps a better video card was being referred to?

Even the best priced MXM 2.1 card on ebay is higher performing than that :p :p

Well, I am curious how did he change the multipliers. It is great what was done, but if I get my hand on a q9650x I want to try it. I think that us missing. Otherwise = I think that all cpu dependent test they scale pretty good linearly with the speed of the cpu.

The 9700m GTS is still better than the 8700m GT SLI. The 9700m GT is pretty much the same card as the 8700m but the 9700m GTS (fx 2700m) is g94 based with 256-bit memory bus and 48 shaders.

The BIOS is totally unsupported by Nibitor but I flashed my QS one to an HP bios and the voltage went up from .9-1.1. I should really try overclocking it.

I think he probably changed the multipliers in the BIOS or with throttlestop maybe, pasoleatis

Interesting. I picked up a Qx9650 for my D901C also [to replace the Q9650]. The Laptop has 8800GTX SLI, 4gb ram and WinXP. I had read that clock will hit 3.5 , and hope that is true... AlanP

I'm using vcore to 1.18. I think the 3.5 is as much due to this notebook cooler.

I wonder how many of these Laptops out there are currently running the Qx9650?

There was some interest in the Xeon X3380 CPU, but as this will clock past the Xeon and need only be juiced before starting CPU intensive programs, the Qx9650 is a much more promising choice as an upgrade. With the CPU at 3.2 and with the 8800GTX SLI video, there are very few laptops currently that will be faster than this old dog...

Sadly the laptops a ticking time bomb with sli cards otherwise I would have been more than willing to keep mine. The price to performance ratio is what makes the qx9650 really worth it for the laptop. Sadly I couldn't push mine past 3.5ghz, and run prime and furmark otherwise the laptop seemed to crap out do to insufficient power.

Cleaning the fans/coolers injured the CPU Fan. Squeals badly now. Replacement is on the way. Meanwhile 3.2 is really smooth and stable. And at 1.200 volt, it runs noticeably cooler.

I've read many posts about the 8800m GTX issues. While that makes me a bit nervous, mine has been solid since Sager installed the Cards. I hope that having the older stock will make a difference. I really am tempted to buy a 280m card as a "safety" back up spare.

So now I have a Q6600, E8600 and a Q9650 left over. Hopefully I will get time to list these on the Marketplace next week. I really don't have the time to mess with Ebay...

    @Rorschach:

Why do you think its a ticking time bob with sli cards? I know about the 8800m gtx's tendency to break before their time because of the solder problem, but perhaps you meant something else? I'm sitting behind a d901c with sli 8800m gtxs and you got me a little bit worried now :p

:D because the only sli options are the defective cards 8k-9k series. The 200 series seem to be in the clear, but sadly there is no sli 200 option available.

Hehe okay, I'm at peace then - those are the risks I know of ;) Can't do anything about it I guess, but I'll stick with this bugger till it dies - it was expensive and I'm gonna use it as long as possible. Plus it handles itself pretty well with modern games.

    Thanks for your answer Rorschach

Thanks. I will give that a try.
I held back to Sager/Clevo Drivers. Some advise moving forward to newer video drivers, while as many advise to stay with that which works. Adds to the level of confusion. Additionally, not sure how true to Nvidia standards a Clevo designed and implimented 8800M GTX card really is.
But I don't think that the older Drivers have full Software support for Physx, Cuda and such...

The 260.99 drivers make a nice improvement in the appearance of Dragon Age, and if you set the first video card as committed to Physix, the program cooperates with the SLI set up.
However, the heat of the SLI 8800GTX and Qx9650 combination climbed significantly. I ran this combination for a couple days and then swapped back to a E8600. The result is that I don't see any noticeable loss in speed, but the Laptop is now much cooler.
