So yea, lots of these HDD temp threads.. did a search, nothing on D901c that i could find... so plz dont harass if YOU do lol. My idle temps on my hard drive are from 51 to 53... heavy load (like with a Norton HD scan goes up to 65 but then stops and doesnt go higher). Any1 havinng these idle temps? Are they not a lil' high... I only have ONE 160GB 7200 drive in the HD bay (not the one under the battery)... this is quite weird no? Any1 have any ideas for me? Why high? what can i do. Besides getting a notebook cooler.. cuz i noticed there are openings on that bay to let air in.... ANy ideas... other D901c owners with these temps?

hmm are you running yours with a cooler underneath?. if you are then they look to be too high. mine averages around the 31 at idle and under load around 45 with my cooler.

Whoa, thats crazy. You should know that above 60C is out of spec for the HDD and could cause damage.

Hopefully you are using a notebook cooler... along with the HDD vent-mod I described for RAMBO.

Older 7200rpm drives are known to create more heat.

What he said is to add more holes to the HDD cover so the cool air from the cooler will cool down the HDD.My plans to put a small fan in there hasn't materialized so far.

Rambo29, forgive my poor memory, but were you planning to use one of the three drive slots to put an additional fan in, or were you planning on adding a fan that would not intrude into the available drive space, leaving room for a full complement of three drives? I'm thinking that, if one is willing to sacrifice one of the three drive slots, it might be possible to provide enough cooling to absorb the additional heat generated by two really big, really fast drives in the remaining slots.

Also, my understanding is that two of the drives are essentially stacked on top of each other (with appropriate carrying frames to keep them from making actual contact with each other) - would it perhaps be possible to only take up part of one drive slot with an additional fan, leaving enough room in the second slot of the two-drive area to house the new 500GB notebook drive that will not currently fit within just one slot because it's 12.5mm deep instead of the standard 9.5mm deep? In other words, the 500GB drive would be allowed to intrude into the space for the second drive by about 3mm, leaving about 6.5mm worth of space to house an additional fan.

38 at idle and aroud 50 at peak (using a notebook cooler pad)
45 at idle and around 60 at peak(when the cooler pad is off)
    (Celcius centigrades)
