Ladies and Gentlemen, my odyssey started in July 2007 finally ended the 7th of March 2008.
I am a proud owner of the D901C.
First: it was not the idea of the administrators to delete the thread about my lost notebook: I decided myself. Although I really think that the thread was full of important advices and that it did help me a lot in the process (and probably did help Rjtech to understand my point of view), it could have been interpreted as hostile (especially if reading only the last part, where I started to be more and more upset). Since I really believe in the boomerang effect, I preferred not to spread any other negativity around and try to find a solution privately, following the advice of a member of this forum. After this sign of good will and after explaining Rjtech that actually I didn’t have anything against them and that I trusted them, they decided to send me, instead of the money, a new notebook with UPS Express (they paid themselves the difference for the shipping costs). The notebook arrived in 4 days!!!
I spent in total (including the German Keyboard a second AC adapter and the Hardware) 2782,55 €. This is really a TOP price for Europeans. It could have been even less, but I bought the hardware in December and they were a bit more expensive than today.
My configuration:
D901C
17” WUXGA
Bluetooth
nVidia 8800M GTX
DVD RW drive
Intel 4965AGN
TV Turner w/Remote
Intel Core 2 Q6700 LGA775, 64bit, Kentsfield,
4096MB SO-DIMM OCZ PC2-6400 C5
2 X hard drives Seagate Momentus 7200.2 200GB SATA ST9200420AS
Conclusions:
This notebook is just wonderful and pretty silent. It also looks very good, so I decided not to paint it anymore. I need only a logo and I hope to find one.
To build the hardware for me that I am experienced was very easy but you must be patient with the little screws. The only problem I had was that I couldn’t enter the Intel Matrix Storage with CRLT+I, but Rjtech suggested me to put back the English Keyboard and then it worked.
Would I buy again a notebook in USA? If I still couldn’t find a good reseller in Europe, yes, especially now (the Dollar is very, very cheap). But I suggest to avoid USPS and to choose always the best shipping company.
I also advice the resellers not to offer anymore USPS as a shipping company for European customers.
I want really say a BIG THANK YOU to all the people have shown understanding for my situation, giving support and good advices especially: Gophn, shyster1, dexdo, DFTrance, kwakkel, eleron911, Veggie, Chaz, Fade to black, hanko panko and the “monster” of star wars (I forgot the name LOL). And a big thank you to Rjtech for finding a compromize that made us finally happy.

So beautiful. Quick question: What's the difference between D900C and D901C? They seem identical to me.
-
D901C is a revision, I guess..
-
Good to hear that RJTech came through and you finally got your laptop. I wonder if Veggie got his situation resolved:

D901C = black;
D900C = blue. -
-
Then it's a D901C.
-
But it says D900C in CPU-Z. Weird.
-
Look at Clevo's page. D901C = grey or whatever color it may be and D900C is blue. They even have the same specifications. The only thing that differs is the color.

@6edo,
Congratulations! Truly your patience is phenomenal, and it is fantastic to see that it has paid off.
It is also good to see confirmation that, even if they got off to an uneven start, RJTech came through for you in the end. My typical experience with IT customer service is: if it starts off rocky, you can guarantee that it will go downhill from there. It's nice to see that RJTech, like many other Sager/Clevo resellers, does not follow the typical IT route.
I know that you are probably a little "scarred" from your ideal, but, since RJTech does not run the USPS - which is the company that is solely responsible for losing the first system - would you say that RJTech has done right by you? That's my impression from your remarks, but just want to make sure I'm not assuming what I shouldn't.
EDIT: In other words, is it proper to conclude that RJTech has re-justified the general impression that they are a worthy, trustful, reseller? -
Hi Shyster, actually I never though that Rjtech was a bad reseller. I always trusted them (otherwise I wouldn't have asked them to send me a new unit instead of the money). But after the notebook was lost, I was really desperate because it was the third times I had problems while ordering this notebook. I was hoping in a faster response for sending the new unit, like we are used in Europe with big companies. I really didn't know that America is less flexible concerning the problem of lost packages and refunds. I don't know how Xoticpc would have reacted in the same position, but I am happy Rjtech decided to send me the new unit before they got the refund from USPS...
-
-
Lesson: Don't use USPS for anything other than letters. -
no doubt eh shyster?
he is does have patience eh...
I have been waiting 10 days for my notebook and i'm about ready to flip~!
I hoped it would have been here in like 5 days like normal.
I dang well hope to heck dang that my notebook will be shipped by tomorrow.! -
-
Nice to hear that your odyssey has had an happy end
Enjoy your rig! (i hope to say the same things when i will can take hands on mine...probably at the beginning of April...) -
Nice to hear this 6edo
Hope you're happy with your system now.
Live long and prosper =)
(Or do you prefer: "And they lived happily ever after"?)

Hi everybody, hi kwakkel... yes I am really, really happy with my system... I am writing with it just now... Photoshop runs so fast now...
-
Just kidding ... some of us are just green with envy! -
LOL... I still have to tweak Vista... but I am really impressed about it...
-
Hi 6edo!
Very happy you finally have a notebook
My Dell XPS m1730 arrives tomorrow XD so I guess we both finally got a laptop!!!
Just need to get my refund from ISTNC now =/
Have fun with your beast of a laptop mate^^ -
Thanks Veggie and congratulations for your dell. Let us know what happens with istnc...

Hi had to chime in here,
I seldom visit the Clevo/Sager forums but I do recall edo6's long thread and his unfortunate circumstance. Glad to see it all worked out in the end..
I've seen lots of pics of the 901C so it shouldn't surprise me but I'm still impressed by how good that beast looks in those pics.
And mad props too to RjTech. -
great stuff to hear.. now my opinion of rjtech has been drastically improved, comparing my posts in your other thread
. i still think that this is the right thing for them to do as i also made clear before. do hope that the other notebook gets back to them btw.
-
They'll get refunded anyway: it's not their fault the package got lost ... let's all blame USPS!
-
You really cant blame USPS... years and years of handling letters and i guess the d901c was too much for them
(im sure they spent days wondering what sort of advertisement got someone to use their services for a laptop)
Haha Congratz bro on finally getting your "baby" -
^
-
I`m also happy you finally had success. I followed your long journey. Nobody wants to that kind of trouble....
so have much fun with your clevo!!! -
Thanks, sci...
PS: I found out why pressing the CRTL+i with the Germany Keyboard didn't let appear the Matrix: the German Keyboard I bought myself was broken... -
once it's fixed: have fun with the woman in the red dress
-
Now I am using the original English keyboard till the new German comes...

did you get stung with import vat?
From your comments and the fast response I've had from Rjtech during some email conversations I am narrowing down to pehaps using them. However I am in a quandry whether to get them to ship straight to me and risk getting hit with the vat. Or get it shipped to a friendly supplier of mine in the states and getting them to forward it to me with some other stuff, pretty much guaranteeing not vat on my end.
Any help or comments would be appreciated -
Sometimes the custom forget to calculate the VAT... in this case you won't pay anything, but it doesn't happen so often... generally you will pay the VAT of your country when the package will be delivered to you. It is a bit like to win the lotto...
-
There is no "no VAT" guarantee. If someone sends you the package and the unit is included you will probably be forced to pay VAT for it (even though there is no receipt). The package gets checked for stuff like that.
You have to pay VAT when you import something (usually it's around 20%). If they will send it to you you will pay VAT. If they will send it to your friend in the US he will probably pay some taxes and you will probably end up paying more (because you may be forced to pay taxes in your own country -> VAT).
Consider the fact that if it gets broken and you will want it fixed as soon as possible you would have to use your friend again to get it shipped back (in case you could avoid getting taxed). The Customs on the other hand will not charge you twice for the same product.
