As requested by Doodles, but I suspect a few people might be interested in these.

    My short story:

After 2 weeks of receiving my Sager 9260 (D901c) I had ghost bands appearing while the BIOS were loading, ie. the Sager Logo screen and during the Windows Logo screen. At first this was fairly sporadic and then it became really annoying and increasing worst with time, and eventually started appearing on dark web pages and dark backgrounds (games etc.). Tapping the sides of the LCD screen (gently) at the bottom seemed to correct the problem, temporarily anyway (as if something was loose in there). This problem persisted and got bad enough to the point where the tapping did work any more.

I knew I had to do something when I found myself hovering around an open window with my laptop in my hands...sooo tempting!

I contacted Sager support and eventually they sent me a replacement LCD video cable for me to install (I live in the UK, so I was very grateful). The new cable fixed my problem. Via further contact they sent me pics showing the various stages of dismantling the LCD case etc. to replace the video cable. There were no lengthy written instructions so I had to use logic mostly (I was in trouble).

I won't give detailed instructions as I did this September 2007 and can't remember too much. There were some basic instructions but they were in an email at work. I can dig it out if anyone is interested and add more info to this thread.

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK (although I did it and I'm average tech-wise). Also put the screws in a small pot, not on the ground. They are very small and if you lose them weird things might happen, or not.

So as requested here are 6 pics showing the process:

The red circles are where the clips are that hold the keyboard in place (push clips in to release keyboard- use flathead screwdriver).

Remove the screws (in red) to remove metal plate.

Remove LCD case. The the video cable is connected to the motherboard. You do not need to remove all the screws around the metal strip around the LCD after the case is removed (if you do your LCD screen will fall out). Remove left hinge screw(s).

Be careful of the small razor shaped metal attached to the base of the LCD display with black tape, and is also secured by a magnet on the inside of the outer LCD case (have pic but already reached post limit of attachments).

This is what it should look like after case is removed.

This is the part of the LCD video cable that needs to be removed. Remove LCD cable, ribbon first. Keep the yellow tape and place around the new cable in the same position as before. Ease the cable head out. Ease the new one in

This shows the position of the rest of the video cable. Remove video cable connector from the motherboard. The cord connecting the ribbon and the connector needs to be removed through the left hinge. Totally remove the old video cable. Thread the new one through there too in the same fashion as it was before. This is possible, there is a lot of space behind the hinge once the hinge cover is moved.

Sorry about the sketchy instructions but I did this a while ago. If requested I can dig out the old email I got from Sager about the video cable replacement procedure. But it isn't particularly extensive.

    Good luck.

ok... So i did alotta of that already, a while back, removed keyboard, and LCD screen, but my question was, how did you get to that strip where the LCD ribbon plugs into the mobo. You just pop off that black strip up top, (the strip with the power button)...then theres a strip of metal under that too. Plus, how do you get off the left hinge that the wires go into after the leave the LCD. (something about a hinge screw?)
