Is it possible to upgrade the memory to DDR3?

    NO.

this model uses notebook DDR2 memory only. It can support 6.8GB RAM for a current chipset limitation.

DDR3 might be coming in the next update. :)

You mean next update as in 2009? Cause as far as I have learned, the chipset on the MB used in the current 9262 will not and will never be able to run DDR3 ram. Not to mention that the difference between DDR2 and DDR3 seems to be negligable if any at all. I can dig up a link to prove my point if you all would like, its in one of the more recent threads in this portion of the forums. I just dont, off the top of my head, remember where it is.

Acutally, it has a desktop Intel P965 chipset:

"Delivers up to 12.8 GB/s of bandwidth and 8 GB memory addressability" -Intel.com

And the Clevo D901C can already support DDR2-800.

It does not really need to move onto DDR3 (no major difference in performance), since it still remains king of notebooks even with the new mobile platforms coming out. :)

Since when does it REALLY matter what RAM you have?
It has desktop CPUs and 800Mhz RAM, it`s still better than mobile chipsets...

That is the effective limitation, give or take, due to the fact that the address space of the chipset is limited to 8GB. Since the system must allocate some of the available address space to other components, such as the GPUs, the USB ports, etc, those allocations necessarily reduce the number of addresses available to allocate to physical RAM. The net effect is that the system will only "see" about 6.8GB or so of RAM, even if it has 8GB of physical RAM. That 6.8GB will, of course, vary depending on how many resources the system must allocate to other devices.

It seems like montevina only brings in better battery life compared to santa rosa, and maybe a little faster ram clockspeed. I still don't see why they chose this to be "centrino 2" when the next gen ones are going to be the revolutionary changes.
