After much deliberation and doubt, I finally picked up a P150EM last week. I've really enjoyed it so far, except for this one little thing I found...

It was supposed to come with DDR3-1600, which it does. The problem is that it only runs at DDR3-1333 speed. (See picture 1)

I'm guessing this is because the DDR3-1600 configuration is stored in the RAM's XMP area (see picture 2), which the P150EM BIOS doesn't read, and there is no way to enable it in the BIOS.

Does anybody know of a way to enable the XMP setting? I've been reading about flashing the SPD, but I'd like to avoid that if at all possible.

Ideally I want the seller to exchange the RAM for something that actually works as advertised, but if I can get this enabled somehow I'll settle for that.

Yeah, I think I have to do that - I've contacted their email support but so far no reply :(

I don't think they're doing this on purpose - it's pretty likely they just put DDR3-1600 marked RAM in there without checking to see if it actually works at that speed with that particular machine.

It's also something to be aware of if you go out an purchase DDR3-1600 RAM yourself.

Heck with email! Pick up that telephone and CALL them, provided they are open that is. (Dont know what the time zone corrections turn out to be and dont feel like looking them up at the moment! lol)

Which if they aren't open, then we know why you aren't getting a response. I know its a digital age but if you want a quick answer, the telephone is where its at! Plus maybe hearing your discouraged voice they will toss something extra in to boot! (never know unless you ask! and I bet your email didn't ask!)

May I ask what CPU did it come with? You might need to get a RAM that has JEDEC table up to 800MHz, the kingston I'm using are KHX1600C9S3/4GX which doesn't come with XMP profile, and all are running at 1600 MHz, but I have an Ivy bridge CPU. Sandy bridge's default ram support is 1333, and Ivy bridge's default ram support is 1600.

I agree, I'm pretty sure that's the problem.

tell that to my 2820qm running 1600mhz ram like a champ.

As to the OP: You need jedec(AKA "Plug n' Play" ram) or a way to flash your timings. I do recall a thread about doing just that within the last year and since I can't search I can't find it easily. Also doing that would probably void the warranty so don't do it, get your reseller to replace the ram with compatible hardware.

I can change that XMP to JEDEC (plugNplay), but SPDTool or the old demo of Taiphoonburner will have to work on your chipset in order to flash the new profile.

Here the demo attached in OP:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...pll-pinmod-overclocking-methods-examples.html

(Keep F7 pressed during boot and select to disable driver signing, then run the software with administrative rights.)

    Here SPDTool:

If one of them works, dump each RAM with the latest Taiphoon Burner (google) and upload the dumps here.

Thanks a lot :D I'll get back to you if the reseller refuses to exchange the RAM. I'm working with them now, we'll see what happens.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that issue is now resolved. The reseller has swapped the RAM for something that is compatible with the P150EM at DDR3-1600 speeds.

CPU-Z reveals that the RAM is able to run much, MUCH faster, but obviously the laptop does not support those speeds :(

Anyway, happy that this issue was resolved without too much fuss.

XMP are supported sadly since the default BIOS can't overclock them to the needed speed.. PnP is the way forward haha :D but Prema seems to help you

Would you be able to change the XMP 1866 MHz settings for Corsair Vengeance RAM to JEDEC as well? If it's not too complicated, I could do it myself with instruction, but if you have a simple tool/method, would it be possible to get those profiles as well?

EDIT: If provided with the original BIOS settings as per your instructions in the quoted section.

Please upload the RAM dumps here:

I am going to travel soon, so may not find the time, but you will be taken care off once we get the dumps.

Thanks to the OP for this thread, it made me look at my timings as I simply trusted the advert before this, looks like my P170em 2760qm machine is running at 1333MHz too, despite the seller advertising it as 1600. The jedec info is in cpu-z for the higher settings but the machine itself is selecting 1333 for some reason, so I've just requested to return laptop so I can replace for an ivy bridge model instead.
