Hey tweakers,
I'm looking into getting a EVOC P650HS-G from HIDevolution.com and I want to install my own RAM. Would you recommend this Kingston RAM? I'm going with just 1 stick of 16GB for now. I might do some video editing later on (in a few years ish) but mostly will be using the laptop for gaming.
In my limited RAM knowledge, once you are above (roughly) 2000MHz of RAM speed, it's the latency that matters more than the raw speed alone. So a 16GB RAM stick of 2133MHz with CL13-13-13 would be quicker than a 16GB RAM stick of 2400MHz with CL17-17-17, right? If so, how does a (same capacity) 2133MHz CL13-13-13 compare against a RAM stick of 2400MHz with CL-14-14-14? I'm assuming the latter comparison is equivalent.
Maybe this question is better asked to @Donald@HIDevolution or @Ted@HIDevolution since you guys build the systems.

CL and clockspeed is a balance. Of the memory you mention, DDR4/2400MHz at CL-14-14-14 would be much better.
For gaming, and even more so for video editing, having Dual Channel (2x identical pieces) will be very important. Since the EVOC P650HS-G has 4 memory slots, you can start with 16GB (2x 8GB) and upgrade that later.TheAverageHobbyist likes this. -

Bandwidth will always go up with frequency, you can work out a rough guide to latency by diving the speed by the CAS latency.
2133/13 = 164
2400/14 = 171.42
Higher is better in this case so the 2400mhz CL14 modules not only offer more bandwidth than the 2133mhz modules they are also lower latency overall by around 3-4%TheAverageHobbyist and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -
Wow that's different from my assumption and great to know. Thank you all very much!
