1- Check your Nvidia driver version and OS
2- Check your power saving settings
3- With your laptop on, close the LCD lid for 5 seconds
    4- Open it again
    5- Repeat steps 3 and 4 a few times

Does your LCD turn on each time you open it?
Mine doesn't all the time, I have to close and open repeatedly to get the screen powered again. Everything else keeps working (HDD,sound, etc).
I discarded faulty LCD because in BIOS screen and w/o Nvidia driver it works fine. I am on XP (32bit) and tried driver from Sager DVD, Bizcom, 162.18 , 162.50 and all of them behave the same. Used DriverCleaner for uninstalling drivers and reinstalling them.
    I even upgraded to BIOS version 110 and...nothing. :(

Are sure the switch that turns the screen on and off isn't broken..?

Yes I'm sure...it works perfect in BIOS and in VGA mode...it should be a driver issue in XP.

Mine lights up everytime I open the lid.

Btw, where do you get BIOS update from. Is it hard to update for NP2090?

But what OS and nvidia driver are you using?
BIOS Downloaded from Bizcom ( http://www.bizcom-us.com/support/), it's very easy once you have a way to boot in DOS. I made a USB memory drive bootable and put the BIOS files on it. To make the USB drive DOS bootable use this tutorial and tools http://www.thegamebooks.com/bootable-usb-guide-t108.html
Just keep the usb drive connected, reboot, press F12, select your USB drive as boot device and voila. Then start the IFL00110.bat file.

Ok, I have the same problem with my NP2090. And it's definitely a driver issue, since it started glitching after I have updated the nVidia driver. But of all the other drivers I have tried, none seemed to help. Works fine in BIOS, Windows loading screen and with default VGA driver, but not with a nVidia driver.
Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I solved using a MS patch, found little info on other posts here and it worked. Patch is KB923232 which can be requested to MS (they send you the donwload link by email) or just google for it. I found it on Intel's downloadcenter, it's larger because it comes with all languages.
It works great, kept me from moving to Vista.
    Good luck!!

Hi, it did work, though the screen sometimes turns off when I open the lid but then immediately comes back on after about 1 second or less, but that will suffice. Thank you for the help.

Great...yes it sometimes takes 1 second to turn on, but it always does now. I am also comfortable that it's not a problem of this particular laptop...there is lot of users with same issues from Dell, HP and Toshiba.

Am I to understand this is only a XP problem then?

I don't have mine yet, but I would like to know before it gets here :)

It should be XP only, I saw another post from a guy in Vista with similar problems, plus hibernation issues. Could be something different though.
    For XP it's confirmed though.

The strange thing is that LCD standby worked fine before I updated the standard 101.08 Sager driver with a newer one from laptopvideo2go.com. I'm not sure if it's really what caused the issue, since I have tried reverting back to the old one, but the problem persisted on all the versions I've tried after that.

How did you revert it? remember that graphics drivers are very tricky in terms of uninstalling. I personally use DriverCleaner each time...just to be sure that uninstall really sweeps off everything form last driver.

I just followed the basic uninstall-reboot-install procedure in the first couple of attempts, and then also used DriverCleaner but to no avail. I know it couldn't delete some files, the system apparently kept restoring them everytime, so that also might be part of the problem. The files were nv4_disp.dll and nv4_mini.sys (I think).

Did you follow the driver cleaner process as described in readme file? Maybe try eliminating manually those files and registry entries in VGA mode?

Yes, I did... though it might be McAfee that is blocking access to those files, but I can't disable the darned thing... it's the enterprise edition required by the university. I might the registry editing later though.

mine old 9860 has been doing the exact same thing! i am happy to finally see there is a hotfix for this. i thought it was nvidias drivers at fault all along since it works perfect in the bios.
