Do you know which region is the DVD\Blue-Ray Drive?

Can you make it region free with a firmware update?

I'm pretty sure BD region codes are only verified by software, not hardware. You will probably need a firmware update to play multi-region DVD's, but you should be able to play any region BD with the appropriate software, regardless of the drive itself.

That being said, the upgrade is ~$150 or so.. Why not just buy a USB BD-ROM? That way you can decide which drive you feel is best supported from a community and firmware perspective. USB BD-ROM drivers are around $150, plus you can move it between PC's.

Dumb question, but does an external support HDCP for playing on a TV (I think not). Also, I hear AnyDVD can bypass some or all of this protection but not sure. I got mine (WHEN I get the bloody thing) with Blueray because I did not want any issues playing real blueray on my TV. For me it's definitely worth it!

Of course it does. HDCP is a function of the disc, not the device playing it.

I've used AnyDVD for quite some time now and never had any issues as far as protection is concerned. I've never used it for blu-ray (I've got a stand-alone blu-ray player) but from what I've read it works with blu-ray just as well.

An external drive will play a blu-ray disc on your TV just as well as an internal drive.

You can change the region 5 times. This is in software only. If you reinstall Windows, you get another 5 times so it is not in the hardware.
