So I was taking apart my P870KM and removed the vapor chamber (Hard to take off still is stuck to the CPU heatsink its so caked...) and the thermals were so caked to the Gpu is ripped off 2 Memory Modules and the Connections leading from the die to them. There looks to be GLUE possibly on the pads? Or so used up they are turning white from green.. The White Spots are a lot more sticky than the Green Parts off the Pads. If it is Glue the question is who would do something like that!? The previous user or the reseller? The pads are so stuck to the heatsink I have to scrape them off... Bought the system used a week ago obviously not well taken care off... This is an XoticPC BTW.. For anyone curious... Never seen anything like this so thought I would Share it... Pretty Pathetic... So I guess I'm looking for a 2nd 1080 then...![]()

Never seen that, who would glue pads and even if it was glue from both side of thermal pads, i dont understand why your pad didnt broke in two parts while you removed it. Then i dont know if it is the quality of your pictures, but your slave gpu has sign of beeing "cooked"

I was gonna say you could probably get those chips soldered back on with a hot air station but then I looked closer and saw the tears in the pcb as the layers were pulled apart
Reminder why not to use adhesiveTheDantee likes this. -

Memory chip pads should be 0.5mm, what thickness are they?
Also no, while it should perhaps adhere slightly (the pad can stick so they stay with the heatsink or the card) bit maybe with 1/10th that adhesion?
Those are not factory pads for sure. -

Seems like it's crazy glue it's a clear adhesive under the pad but on top exposed to air where it would be touching the heatsink is white which is quite odd not to mention the are poorly cut

I wonder if the person before you forgot to remove the protective plastic.

Melted plastic would do that.

A thermal pad sits between the part that makes contact between the two heatsinks.
Quite frankly I suspect the original owner is lying.TheDantee likes this. -

That white pad stuff is a double sided adhesive thermal tape isn't it?
Man I feel so sorry for you but you should have asked for some tips on how to get that **** apart before... literally... tearing into it
A heat gun may have softened the adhesive or you could have tried to soak isopropyl/metho/acetone in there to weaken the glue
You should inspect the CPU socket closely as all that force being applied to the 4 screws might have ruined or warped the mainboard there too. If you get the bios chip soldered properly that may also produce the same symptom of short detected 1 second off/no post. -

woodzstack Alezka Computers , Official Clevo reseller.
Ive never seen anything ever like this before, who the heck did this ?
Superglue and epoxy or glue gun rubber/glue is not conducive to keeping things cool.
This is insane, to see the memory come off like that. I'm just speachless... -

Not sure why benny thought the OP could have done anything.
