Just got the game and yeah it's basically unplayable for me. I've tried every setting there is, all set to low, and it doesn't change anything at all.

    np8662:

    4GB RAM
    P8800 2.66Ghz Core Duo
    NVIDIA Geforce GTX 260M

There's not many settings we PC users can modify, i've tried setting textures, zombie textures, shadows, aa, vsync all to low and even running the game in 1024x768  everytime I enter a crowded zombie area the game goes from 60 fps down to 12-14 fps

I take it it's my cpu right?

Running the same mt engine (Resident Evil 5) all maxxed out, constant 60fps, but of course dead rising 2 features tons of more zombies.

It sounds like it could be your CPU but you should run Rivatuner in the background during gameplay and set it up to show CPU usage.

The graph will show any spikes in the CPU usage levels and you will know for sure. for example, play the game until the drops in fps occurs and see if it shows that in the graph the same time the zombies appear in numbers.

If it is the CPU then you could always upgrade to a 3.0 Ghz Core2Duo or a 2.5 Ghz Core2Quad like the QX9300 or the 2.0 Ghz Q9000 assuming the game can use all Cores.

It could be just that Dead Rising 2 is a poor port though and those always need more CPU to make up for the bad optimisation.

Edit: Read here before spending money.

Whenever lower settings don't improve the framerate, it's CPU bottlenecking.

Sounds like you'll need a quad core.

Thanks for the prompt replies guys. Yeah the spikes go through the roof when i'm playing the game, also i've seen various forum posts talking about how CPU dependant the game really is.

Would I get a tremendous improvement if I bought a Intel Core 2 Quad Mobile Q9100 cpu 2.26GHz 12M QGMU over my current cpu p8800?

    Intel Core 2 Quad Mobile Q9100 cpu 2.26GHz 12M QGMU 2-300 euro

    Core2 Quad Extreme QX9300 4x2,53 GHz 12 MB Cache FSB 1066 44 --> 4-500 euro

Pretty costly options if you ask me, especially the last one :O

    Cheers guys

The Q9100 will absolutely dust the P8800 in any game which uses four cores.

You can simply get one of those Q9200 ES with unlocked multiplicator of ebay (200 € ;), you can overclock then overclock that CPU to 3,2 GHh+ and don't have to worry about CPU power anymore.

Yeah, a Q9200 + good thermal paste is great. I run mine at 3Ghz, though I haven't tried going any higher.

Ah that's very nice to hear, thanks :)

Thank you for that tip, 200 € sound a heck of a lot better then 4-500 :)

    Much appreciated guys
