I got my Sager NP9170 today and immediately saw at least 2 dead pixels and 1 stuck pixel (all in separate parts of the screen), which is annoying. What worries me however, is the fact that there is a thin red verticle line on the screen whenever it is supposed to be showing black. This red line is invisible when the screen is tilted backwards, and visible when looking at the screen head on or when the screen is tilted forwards (or closing the laptop).

I didn't purchase the no dead pixel guarantee or any shipping coverage (from reflexnotebook) so I don't really want to go through the process of getting the screen fixed, but I am worried about these problems getting worse. What are the chances that the problems will get worse?

well if it has a whole line across the screen, then it should be covered under the standard dead pixel warranty

If its a Sager branded computer they cover you with 5 total dead or 1 in the middle. If you make a tic tac toe board on the screen and the pixel is in the center one it would be considered in the middle. But if you have a full line of them I would think that would be more then 5.

I don't know what the red line is. It is a very thin vertical and only appears (on the left side of the screen) when the screen should be displaying black, so it isn't stuck or dead. The line by itself isn't much of a problem to me (since my screen is rarely completely black), but I'm scared that it is an indicator for bigger problems.

Does anyone know what this red line is?

the screen is comprised of pixels.

i'd assume its a line of stuck red pixels. you only notice it when the screen is black because no other color is being used. it surely is always there you just don't notice it when other colors are in use.

either way i'm a bit concerned since i'm also waiting for a laptop from reflex and didn't get the 'no dead pixel warranty'.

Alright thanks for the tip. Does anyone know of some stuck pixel software that covers the whole screen? I've only tried UDPixel which covers small spots.

That looks to be an error with the control logic or the signaling path it uses rather than the pixels themselves.

I agree with Meaker; I don't think the red line is a result of bad/dead pixels. They don't customarily manifest themselves that way.

You can try Dead Pixel Buddy or Dead Pixel Tester to double or triple check.

I also had purchased sager np9170 on dec 16, it came with two dead pixel, I contacted my reseller, and Sager replaced the screen, I received it yesterday. It is fine. I also had not purchased any dead pixel warranty.

So I suggest contact your reseller, if the machine develops dead pixel down the road it is different matter, but new one should not come with dead pixel.

Given you have an entire line of faulty pixels that's a replacement candidate in anyone's book.

Alright thanks for the input. In addition to this line of faulty pixels, 3DMark11 and CPU-Z are showing that my RAM is clocked at 800mhz (I ordered 1600mhz). Definitely looking to get this one fixed / replaced. I hope reflexnotebook won't ask me to pay shipping.

The RAM issue was just on another post. Since you have DDR (Double Data Rate) you double what CPU-Z shows so you really have 1600Mhz. It always shows half speed.
