Are Clevo's likely to ship with dead pixels. I just placed an order on a np9262 and I'm wondering if i should pay the extra for the dead pixel policy.

Dead pixel warranty is there to cover you for dead pixels in case you actually have one or more dead pixels. Just like with every other warranty it only pays off to have it if you need it. And because you don't know if you'll actually need it, it's up to you if you feel the need to have it. I'm feeling a bit poetic today
My experience with clevo's so far:
I own a M570RU and I have dead pixel warranty; in a week or so I will get my THIRD one because of dead pixels. This will not mean that the np9262 will have the same issue and it may use a different screen.
NOTE: I spent around 150 US dollars on the dead pixel warranty (Euro 75)Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I won't tell you what you should do. But I didn't pay for it on mine and I don't have any dead pixels. I have mine since they started shipping again in Oct.

If you are buying from Sager, they have a 30-day satisfaction guarantee.
So if you are not satisfied... with the a dead pixel, you can return/replace it... without having to buy the dead pixel warranty.
Thats all. -
i have one half dead pixel on the very edge of the screen, it shows up green on a black background but not noticible with other colours. When i first saw it i was a bit gutted and wished i'd payed the extra $200 bucks. But to be honest i don't notice it (i only spotted it cos i check the screen out with a dead pixel checker)
still if it was in the middle of the screen i think it may be more noticible. If i bought again i would probably pay it for piece of mind. -
While shopping for LCD displays, a friend once said that the "Ignorance is bliss" policy works best.
If you don't look for the dead pixels, you won't be bother by the ones on the edges.
Those in the middle will of course be an issue.
My first laptop (gateway) did not have any.
My LCD TV has 5 stuck pixels.
My LCD monitor has one stuck pixel.
From that experience, I spent the extra $200, knowing that if dead pixels develops in the first year, I can get it replaced.
Think about it as an insurance policy. -
my 55" hitatchi plasma TV has one dead (stuck black) pixel.
it's a crapshoot with screens and dead pixels. -
If you buy the 3 year diamond warranty from PCMW you get Dead Pixel warranty, notebook carrying case, Notebook cooler, and some software for free. All this in addition to trade in value for upgraded parts and all upgrades at cost. Not a bad deal for $300.

One of the first things I did was to run the pixel test. My D901C passed with no dead pixels. I had the 3 year protection from PCMicro with dead pixel protection, but I just don't like to leave things to others.

Keep in mind that with Sager's high end systems, at least (e.g., the NP2090, NP579X, and the NP926X), ANY dead pixels in the center of the screen are considered unacceptable (place a # symbol over your screen. The middle square is the location where they will allow no dead pixels whatsoever), and they also won't ship a system with more than 3 dead pixels.
Since the American dead pixel guarantee costs about $200.00, it depends on your shipping method more than anything as to whether or not it's worth it. Sager offers a 30-day return policy (and the dead-pixel guarantee is also 30 days), in which you can get a full refund, minus the cost of shipping. Ground shipping is generally $35 - $40. If you order the system with ground shipping and have a dead pixel, it's $35-$40 to you, $35-$40 back to Sager, and $35-$40 for a new system, or $105 - $120, a savings of $80-$95 over the dead-pixel guarantee. -
Just one point. I keep seeing the cost of shipping added 3 times. The first cost you usually have to pay whether you buy the dead pixel policy or not.
Total cost of replacement under satisfaction guarantee is only shipping 2 ways or 60.00-80.00. -

Dead pixel protection worth the extra 200?
