...dv9500t/ dv6500t (CTO). Aside from screen res and portability, would the NP2090 outflank these in durability, performance and quality (build and screen)? My needs include pro audio, graphic design, photography, Web design and some CAD. I need to buy one for myself and another for a family member. The projected config is: WSXGA+ (1680x1050); T7700 2.4 GHz CPU; 4GB RAM; Hitachi 7K200 200 GB drive; DVD writer; wireless + Bluetooth; Vista Ultimate (if the wheels don't fall off).
I know this topic has been debated in depth, but I'd appreciate a vote of confidenceCheers!

You're looking at documented month-2 month long delays on preorders and a definite back order right now of 2-6 weeks with no concrete indication of what the problem is and how it's being solved for the NP2090. Basically if you can sit tight and ride out the wait, the NP2090's a great system for the price.

In terms of graphics capability, the NP2090 will beat the dv6500 or any HP equivalent hands down, due to the fact that HP doesn't make the Geforce 8600m GT or any equivalent available for their 15.4" lineups.

Thanks for your replies! I assume that the NP2090 is the better product with regard to build quality, and that on the whole it's the wiser choice. Besides, the GT itself is more future-proof. I hope the screen is at least on a par with the HPs. But folk here seem pretty satisfied.

Good call going for the WSGXA+ matte screen. That is what I have and it is one of the nicest laptop screens I have ever worked on. There is no comparison in terms of its viewing angles and color quality compared to the matte screen I had on my previous Compaq laptop (which was owned by HP when I bought it).
