I'm not sure if this has been asked, but I did a search "9800m dell compatibility" (EDIT: I did a little more searching than that, should've said that earlier. Please don't flame) but there wasn't any results, so I would like to know by anyone who knows, will this:

    NVIDIA 8800M GTX SLI [1GB] / DELL XPS M1730 - eBay (item 270619353872 end time Aug-15-10 09:46:01 PDT)

work with the d901c or are these cards made Dell-proprietary? My GPU is all messed up (8800m gtx). I turn my laptop on and after a few minutes of running the screen goes gray, and if I try to play a video or something it goes gray right away (does it in both xp and vista), so I'm in need of a new gpu. I figure I may as well upgrade in the process.

So again, back to the point: will this ebay item be compatible with my chassis?

    Thanks!!

Ugh, damn. Are there any vendors you know of who DO sell them? I can't seem to find any online. I may have to upgrade to 9800m sli, which isn't too bad, but I don't want to pay that much for such a trivial upgrade.

I don't know if the BIOS will support them, but both of those cards are MXM 2.1 type III; which is what the D901C uses. The one in the second auction just uses the wrong picture.

    Thank you!

I'm sure I can find tutorials that explain how to change to a compatible BIOS, but which card would be preferred?

While I'm at it so I don't start a new thread, what is that absolute best processor I can get for the d901c without doing any major modification (I think they call it vmodding)?

    Thanks again!

They're basically the same spec-wise, however the 280M is a die-shrink so it should run somewhat cooler and the 280M also as higher stock clocks.

I don't quite know about the processors it can use, the highest I've heard of is the Q9650.

The highest CPU the D901C can take is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 @ 3.0 GHz. You will need BIOS .22 and KBC/EC Firmware .13N in order to use it.

I second that. To be sure check your motherboard version, a sticker near (under) your memory slots. It should tell v5.2 or higher.

Thank you very much! I'm not looking forward to a motherboard swap, otherwise.
