I've been reading a lot and have read mixed things about using a Dell GTX 680m in a Clevo. Some say it's not possible at all/not worth it for the trouble it causes and some say it's possible with a modded VBIOS and a modified inf. I realize this is a subject that has been discussed alot but can anybody be certain that I can get a Dell GTX 680m and make it work in my old Clevo D900f?
I've been looking at specific MSI/Clevo GTX 680M's and they are rare and very expensive for me to purchase. There are none within the UK that I can find and purchasing one from outside of the UK is ridiculously expensive.
Can anyone advise before I take the plunge on buying a Dell card?
Many thanks

I don't know if a Dell card would work, they do have a very different way of communicating with the EC, so I wouldn't go for anything that isn't MSI/Clevo. a GTX 680M should work fine. You probably need to do a few heatsink mods to keep it cool tho.

Alright thank you for the reply I'll wait till a Clevo/MSI card comes available. -

I succesfully ran Dell K5000M and GTX765M in Clevo P375SM, also my friend have Dell GTX880M in his P751ZM.

NVIDIA cards are cross compatible, while AMD cards are not (only the older revisions of 7970 and before).
-
Interesting lots of conflicting information about this subject lol, so for sure any dell GTX 680 will work in Clevo before I buy? aha obviously with a modified heatsink

most dell laptop can support clevo card.

I have the GTX680M in my Clevo D900F and after installing an updated bios it worked great. I got the card from Eurocom Technologies and bought and upgraded the cpu to a 6 core Extreme 990X also got that from the same company with a heatsink to cope with the extra heat, all from the same company. I can play most games at high graphic settings to date but not the highest maximum settings of the latest games. Still love the screen size and hate the new widescreen format. I live by bigger is better.

My Clevo D900f has almost 10 years. I have upgraded from a original gtx 280m to a gtx 680m (4 gb vram version) A decade playing games at highest graphic level. It's amazing.
You need a bios update + vbios modification.
Take a look a this german site :

hi. maybe can install more powerful GPU in D900f, higher from 680m?
-
No, but you can get modded vBios and cooling so the card is around the same speed as a GTX 880 / GTX 970M.

That would be pushing it to the absolute limit, at this point it might be safer for any kind of time to aim a little lower clock speed wise.

Why not? It is only necessary to flash support in the bios. as soon as the x7200 came out it was only up to 485m supported. then upgrade bios to support 580m and then 680m. I think it is necessary to find a phoenix bios in which there is support for the 8th and 9th series of graphics cards and transfer them to the bios x7200. I can not find fresh laptops in which there is a phoenix bios. only ami aptio, inside h2o...
Is there a difference in the MXM connector pinout 680m and 780m? i thinking - no. it is only software problem. bios not recognizes 780m (880 980...) GPU. LVDS fully support 780m 880m...Last edited: Sep 30, 2018 -
Sadly it cannot happen. People tried, without success. Even prema tried to make 7xx and 8xx series work on a P150HM, without success.
Sadly you're stuck with 680M as your best option. As far as I know it has something to do with the fact that the last few pins on the MXM slot are reseverd on older clevo models, which cause cards such as the 7xx and 8xx series not to work, since pins are basicially missing.
So this is not even fixable with any kind of BIOS mod. -

The EC reporting is done a bit differently on that generation which was to do with those pins.

today i take another my laptop, which is very old - clevo w870CU with gtx260m in stock . I installed without problems GTX670MX - kepler! In the BIOS new card not identify - unknown card, but the version and revision were determined correctly. I think that with 680m and 780m also there should be no problems.
that's why the older w870cu works with 670mx and the x7200 with the same video card does not start at all. -

Yes it was just those few models in the middle. The latest cards either need an eDP or optimus setup.
-
i know - only for 10 series cards need eDP LCD panel
question - why 670mx not working in x7200? -

It was one of those models in the middle.

The GTX 680M is also kepler. As already stated previously, even the GTX 680M will likely work in your W870CU. After that u're done with upgrading. 7xx, 8xx etc. won't work.

As already said, the notebook won't run with GTX 7xx and GTX 8xx cards. Maxwell was unknown to me, since nobody really cared for it, but good to see that maxwell doesn't have the restriction anymore. So P150HM notebooks could maybe also run with maxwell? Would be nice to find a person who could try.

i try clevo x7200 with gtx970m 6gb clevo vbios p771zm (i dont know with or without G-Sync) - dont start up.... also try power up with quadro m1000m (hp vbios) - no success...
Dell GTX 680M in Clevo D900f with modded VBIOS? Is it possible?
