    Hi there!

New poster here so be kind please :)

I have a trusty Clevo M57U (Evesham supplied) 17 inch laptop. It's been a great machine and lasted well. I have paid for new HD, battery, CMOS battery in recent times, but now I have graphics card issues, vertical red lines on display at start up then blue screen before XP loads. Safe mode is fine, pretty sure it's a graphics card issue, although occasionally it does start fine so not getting a chance to overheat.

To swap out the graphics card seems sensible, but the nvidea GTX 7950 s
I see for sale are Dell items. Will these work OK? This looks on paper like a like for like swap, but not sure.

If these items will not work, where can I get a new card that will?

    Many thanks guys!

How much are you paying? Which cards are you looking at specifically?

eBay has BRAND NEW DELL M1710 M90 9400 512MB NVIDIA 7950 GTX VGA GU067, XJFPC for 90gbp. All I can say for sure about my existing card is that it nvidea 7950gtx with 512MB.

    Apologies gtx 7950... Not 9750.

Yeah it was what I worried about. That card uses a proprietary connector that Dell used back then. You would need an mum slot.

OK. So you are saying ANY Dell GTX 7950 will not work in my Clevo?

Any thoughts on where I can get a card that WILL work in this machine? I can't pretend to know what a mum slot is.... :)

What Meaker said is basically this: the PCI-Express slot format for notebooks is generally MXM (with versions of it).
That Dell card you found uses another type of slot that's only found in dell notebooks, so it won't fit in your Clevo laptop physically.
