Why are you worried? If you own a legal Vista disc (and legal Office), there will be no problems.

I dont own any disks, the copy of office I got was through that TheUltimateSteal deal they had for students and was just a .exe installer (with a code) and Vista came pre-installed... I do have a "Recovery Disk" Whatever that is...

Im also worried about re-installation issues with Hard Drives or w/e cause when I had a Dell I had to re-install some sort of HD Driver (Intel Matrix Storage Driver or something) Mid way through re-installing the OS...is there anything like that I need to do?

essentially i want to know if I have to do anything like Step 7...with the AHCI drivers or w/e... Like do I need to install the drivers during the re-installation of Vista? Do I need to re-enable it anywhere? ect. ect.

You do not need a separate ahci driver, just follow vista's on-screen instructions and you'll be fine

K for MS Office the exe is fine with the code, i have one through my school and i have done the same thing. For Vista, all you need is the cd, you just put in the cd and follow instructions, the cdkey/serial for that if you need it which i HIGHLY DOUBT, is on the bottom of your laptop (windows sticker). This is easier then changing video drivers :D

    Alright ill try it...

Can someone explain to me the whole AHCI thing? and how it affects Vista or w/e cause I thought I remember people re-installing a while back having some sort of issues with AHCI?

Also how do you know if AHCI is working? What are the benefits over IDE?

    i got this from wikipedia.

For Intel chipsets (for example, Intel ICH9) drivers are available from either an OEM board or computer manufacturer. For the Intel versions, the driver must be loaded before loading the OS (by pressing F6 as setup starts). The Intel drivers will work for both XP and Vista. Also, in the case of ICH9, an unsupported method to enable AHCI on ICH9 is available.

so i dont need to do that? installing it before loading the OS?

Right so this is what has me confused... To me it sounds like he is saying I need to install some sort of drivers as I re-install windows...

    From Audigy
    "
On Vista, simply changing the BIOS setting to AHCI mode and rebooting, from a previous IDE(non-AHCI) instalation, will cause Windows to fail.

The problem is that if you installed Windows in IDE mode (ie you didn't use F6 and supply a driver disk), then simply changing the BIOS setting to AHCI mode and rebooting will cause Windows to fail and will require a repair install. Most people have been advising to reinstall Windows if you want AHCI enabled.
    "

so... question is when I re-install Vista does it automatically install in AHCI mode or IDE mode? and if it does it in AHCI automatically do I need to do anything ( I assume not) I must know this before I mess around with reinstalling.

What Audigy said is nice and clear.
    1) AHCI should be pre-enabled in BIOS, unless you changed it to IDE mode previously for XP installation. In your case, you don't need to do anything.
only if you are installing windows XP.
It should be pre-set at AHCI mode, you can also check the BIOS to confirm. it called "Advanced Host Controller Interface"
Again, no, you DON'T need to do anything with vista.
