Just got my NP7358 earlier today and I plopped in a Samsung 840 Evo ssd drive I bought separately after making sure I got what I ordered. I set the ssd as the primary drive in bios, plopped in the windows 7 dvd, told it to format the two partitions on mechanical drive it came with and then had it install on the ssd. It seems to have installed correctly without having to point out any special drivers for the ssd. This is the first time using an ssd for me so I hope those were the correct steps! Now I'm down to the device drivers. I've installed all the normal ones on the included disc, but now I'm at the option ones and I have no idea if I want the following or what they are:

    3G Driver
    TPM Driver
    IRST Driver
    Rapid Start Driver
    Intel WiDi AP

There's also the SBCinema AP after those but I'm installing in the order they appear. Do I just want to install everything or is there something to skip there?

Looking those up it seems I want to do TPM & IRST. Won't have any use for the 3g, Rapid is for mechanical drives w/ the OS and I have nothing to use w/ the wifi display. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It sounds like your procedure for the new drive install was spot on.

As for the drivers I wouldn't install the 3G driver unless you have a 3G module. I would install the WiDi only because your system supports it, even if you don't use it it's there in case you come across a WiDi capable display. The Rapid Start Driver I'm not sure of... Isn't that the same as the IRST driver (Intel Rapid Start Technology)? Either way it's my understanding that rapid start is used when using a SSD as a caching drive for a mechanical HDD.

Someone will correct me on this I'm sure :)

That's what I read too in regards to the IRST. Since the SSD holds the OS I left that alone. Now my only issue is the mechanical HDD isn't showing up as a drive. It's listed in the device manager though, I just can't figure out how to make use of it.

*edit* Finally got the right keywords in google and followed a chain to this: http://www.7tutorials.com/how-manage-your-disks-using-disk-management-utility Mechanical drive is now in use!

It looks like you have most of your bases covered! TPM is for encryption purposes. I don't remember this laptop having hardware TPM, so I would leave it off.

I believe it wouldn't let me install that one which made it easier to figure out if I needed it. :D
